Opinions on La Mirada as a Reception Venue

Love_birds

I love the La Mirada, but I'm really concerned as to how the flow of the evening will be. I have 130 guests and we'll need to take up both the banquet room and patio to seat everyone. Has anyone else done this? Do the guests outside feel left out? Is it awkward breaking down tables in the middle of your reception to make room for dancing? Will the set up not encourage dancing? HELP!

Also, any other suggestions for a reception venue for 130? I have champagne taste on a beer budget :/

Thanks!

Hi auds424. First of all congratulations on choosing the best city in the world for your beautiful wedding. I've never seen the La Mirada venue, but the online description sounds wonderful. To answer your post however, I've been to a wedding where the guests were "separated" into 2 rooms due to space constraints and there is no way for the guests stuck farther away not to feel left out, more so if it were literally an inside outside situation. Also it may be very difficult to break down the tables to make room for a dance floor. First of all some of your guests at those tables may not be up for dancing and may then choose to leave when they are asked to vacate their space. It also sounds pretty awkward to pull off, unless you can orchestrate some reason to lead everyone out of the room {maybe for a group photo?) and have the tables broken down then, although I still don't advise it.

When we were planning our wedding there we also fell in love with a location that was absolutely gorgeous but not big enough for our 120 guests (Hyatt Carmel Highlands). So I kept looking and we ended up having the most beautiful wedding in Monterey Plaza Hotel, which was right on the ocean in the Cannery Row. Anyway I hope you find the location that's perfect for you, or find a good compromise in La Mirada (maybe hold it all outdoors instead?) because one of the most important aspects of a wedding, aside from a gorgeous location, is to have happy guests. And the problem with unhappy guests is the bride and groom will be the last to know, if at all. I do hope this helped in any way. Good luck and enjoy your preps!

Hi auds424,
I'm not sure what your planned wedding date is, but if you want an outdoor wedding you might want to take a look at Jardines de San Juan in San Juan Bautista. Some of the outdoor pictures from La Mirada look similar to what you would find at Jardines de San Juan, romantic gardens, rustic, brick patio, outdoor setting and not very expensive. It's not in Monterey, but about 1/2 north in the quaint town of San Juan Bautista (with the Mission to get married in too.)
It can seat 150 outside for ceremony and reception or up to 250 for reception only.
Good luck with your planning!

We have catered many weddings at La Mirada, with various service styles, timelines and rooms utilized. For most weddings, the ceremony takes place on the Rose Patio followed by passed appetizers. The guests move into the Drawing Room, overflowing to the patio for dinner. We generally recommend the placement of the sweetheart table for the bride and groom near the large windows so that the guests who are seated outside can experience the special night with little distraction. Sometimes tables are taken down to allow room for dancing or the guests return to the Rose Patio. It is a bit awkward to remove tables while the guests are present, but our staff quickly and efficiently performs this task with as little disturbance to the mood as possible. EzzoEntertainment

Hello auds424,
We have provided musical entertainment for weddings at La Mirada where tables were set both inside the Drawing Room and outside on the adjacent patio both with our band and also as DJs. The key is for the Band or DJ to set up speakers both inside and outside and for the Master of Ceremonies to make announcements in such a way that everyone feels a part of the reception. La Mirada is a wonderful place for a wedding and the coordinator, Mel, is fun and personable. I would be happy to explain how we set up equipment at prior weddings there so that every guest feels included. Ann @ Steve Ezzo Entertainment (831) 333-1551 http://www.EzzoEntertainment.com.
