Our wedding went so smoothly that we couldn't believe it. All of vendors were absolutely wonderful to work with, and we had no last-minute snafus to worry about. The weather was so-so; the temperature was great but it did rain on us toward the end of the night. About half of our guests were out of town, and they all enjoyed visiting local Roanoke attractions; the Transportation Museum, the Star, and the Mill Mountain Zoo among others. We thought the WeddingMapper was a great resource for them.
My home church - but they will let non-members book for a small fee. The sanctuary has beautiful woodwork and was able to accommodate our almost 250 guests (tight squeeze though!); there is also another section behind the sanctuary which will open up to seat more people if needed. They do have mikes and sound recording capabilities also. Our pastor did a great job with the service; we planned it using bits and pieces from a few different services he provided us.
Roanoke has so many great venues for receptions that we had a tough time deciding, but we thought the museum would be very unique and just seemed more FUN than your standard ballroom reception. We wound up so happy with our choice.
It is an amazing venue with great staff and awesome food. They really worked with us to make our day special, and they coordinated well with the other vendors (which is helpful beyond belief, especially if you don't have a wedding planner). We paid extra to rent out the auditorium which adjoins the atrium, which worked out very well for our 220-person wedding. We had plenty of space to seat everyone and had a large bar and dance floor. We also paid for the galleries to stay open which was very neat for our guests. There were many other nice touches to the night; they have a projector available which we used to show photos, we got to take pictures up on the terrace (which would normally have been a great view of the city but it was raining!), and of course entering down the grand staircase was a moment I'll remember forever.
Beautiful, recently renovated hotel and a little more reasonably priced than Hotel Roanoke; we only had a few guests stay here but they were all happy with it.
We had a block of 25 rooms for our guests. We also stayed there on our wedding night and were treated to champagne and strawberries. The early check-in time was somewhat of a hassle since it is not guaranteed, but they will call you as soon as the room is ready. It is also pricey for the area, but they did give us a slight group discount. We had 2 junior suites for the bridesmaids and groomsmen; they are pretty spacious but reserve them EARLY since there are not many suites available.
Our wedding party also took photos here before the ceremony since it is such a gorgeous building.
The customer service was great; the valet provided our wedding party complimentary shuttle service to and from the church, saving us a ton of money on a limo! The hotel bar also stayed open later for our after party :) We enjoyed breakfast at the Regency Room the next morning. Really would give 5 stars except that we wish it had been a little cheaper so more of our guests would have stayed there.
