These guys are awesome. They added just the right touch to our caribbean themed reception. Not only that but they were pleasant, professional, talented, and totally handled my curious nieces and nephews with coolness.
I decided to go with mini cupcakes for our cake. They were a HUGE hit!! The bakery provided 9 different flavors of cupcakes. People ate more than we thought they would and we still had plenty left over (after all you do have to try all of the flavors). Sugarrush were very accomodating, making a special cupcake for my husband, who will only eat spice cake. Service was friendly, which I did not find at other cupcake bakeries and subsequently deterred me from them. The cakes were moist and tasty with plenty of frosting, which is another thing I was not expecting! Big hit!
Shelby and Chef Sarah and their teams rock! The food at this event was even more of a hit than the cupcakes. I cannot say enough about their awesome food, professionalism and hard work. All my helpers (read: our brothers and sisters) did not have much to do because this team did it all for us efficiently. They were friendly, prompt, and worked with in our budget. It was worth every penny to have Foodz Catering at our event. Ours was a very informal affair, and our guests felt well-taken care: we had heavy h'or d'oeuvres and everyone left full! My husband did not get the one thing he wanted: jerk chicken drumettes--but it's ok because as part of the package, a special box of food was put aside for us for later.
Ours was a Caribbean theme, and where else would you go for something offbeat? We did our own centerpieces using tropical fruit, sugar cane, and other tropical leaves. It was beautiful and the florist was helpful when we had questions about some of the tropical leaves and flowers we picked out. She wrapped them up for us for easier check out.
I did not carry flowers down the aisle, and I am really glad that i didn't!
California-based Nepalese Paper was really great! I was looking for a tree free invitation. These invites are made from Lotka leaves in Nepal. Young and old commented on our unusual invitations. Husband and I printed the invitations ourselves and had Kinkos cut them for a few dollars. The paper has texture, so some of the lettering wasn't perfect--people thought that we had handwritten them, though, and thought them quite charming! The bamboo closure on the front of the invite is a nice touch, we had to get extra postage because they could not be put through the postage machines (we did not use the traditional method of five million inner envelopes for our invites); the thank you cards did not have the bamboo closure. We dealt directly with the owners, which was nice. The only drawback was that we miscalculated how many people my husband's family was inviting and needed to have a rush order of invites sent to us--unbeknownst to us, they were on vacation! We sent the invitations a little bit late, and everything worked out fine.
My favorite part of these invites is the idea of passing on the card, rather than keeping it. The inside is removable so you can re-use the outside again; a truly recyclable card!
The Lodge easily fit our guests and it has a very cozy, woodsy feel to it. The Lodge was easily accessible for everyone. The Lodge does not have air conditioning, though, so many of the guests ended up on the ouside patios to cool off. The only drawback is that you are dealing with the Parks Dept. We got mixed messages about what was needed from us, ie, liquor licenses, etc, so my husband was running around the day before in search of a certain paper we needed.....also, our grandfather needed to be assisted by vehicle down to the site and there was mixed communication about that.
It was fun to be in this park: the weather was windy the day of the picnic so we had the park to ourselves. The Olympic Sculpture Park was right next to us, so that was fun to explore!
We headed here after the wedding, about 930pm. I was worried that there would not be enough room for us, but there was plenty of chairs, tables, and space for the 15-20 of us. Large selection of beer, wine, and champagne available, as well as board games, darts, and pool.
