Greensboro, VT was a wonderful place to get married. We set out to give our guests as close to an authentic Vermont experience as possible, and it was one of the best places in the state to do this.
The location is pristine and with the proximity of so many great food options, which was really important to us. Almost all our food was local: we had a pig roast, beer from Hill Farmstead brewery, and our caterer sourced from local farms and Jasper Hill Cheese Caves!
One downside is Greensboro's distance from housing for out of town guests... It's almost an hour away from any major town center. We got around this by getting deals at two hotels in St. Johnsbury and providing a school bus to and from the ceremony! It worked very well, and the same could be done for guests staying in Burlington or Montpelier if need be.
All in all, the weather was perfect and everyone had a smashing time!
Baylow's Cakes are amazing. She was the first vendor we booked for our VT wedding; a friend of mine had used her a few years previous and once we knew we were getting married in the same location we called her instantly!
She made us a great cake with cinnamon buttercream frosting, and since my groom isn't much of a cake guy she was able to cover the outside with shortbread cookies.
Guests raved about the flavor, and I was really pleased with how it looked too... I like the rough buttercream look instead of clean fondant, although I know from her website that she can do both!
I would give her a very high recommendation, and I think her prices are extremely reasonable... especially considering the quality!
Charlie is the exclusive caterer of the Lakeview Inn where the wedding was held. There is no denying that Charlie's food is amazing. He catered the rehearsal dinner and the reception, and wow! I would absolutely use him again for catering services.
However, we also used him as our rentals coordinator for the tent and other services. We figured it would save us some sanity. He was extremely uncommunicative through the whole process (never received a contract or list of rental items for verification), but since this was in VT I figured thats how things go (it's not uncommon for very skilled people in the state to present themselves unprofessionally). However, he literally messed up the size of our tent. It all worked out for the best, but when we arrived and it was 20ft longer than we wanted that was a big problem.
So, YES to Charlie's cooking, but I would suggest you stick to the rental organizing yourselves...
Danika Johnson of Blomma Flicka flowers is a gem. Extremely professional, courteous, obliging, and oh my... TALENTED! I don't think I can say enough nice things about her. She worked within our budget and the arrangements she made were just astonishing.
Her website really doesn't do her justice. The style that I went for was a weedy sort of wildflower look, and the finished product was amazingly elegant and approachable.
Her demeanor is great too... she's easy and fun to work with. If you can work with her... DO!
The first image I clipped out of a magazine as wedding inspiration was one of Meg's. It didn't even occur to me at the time to see if she would be available... I assumed she was out of our price range. But, after some more searching and having her name come up as a potential photographer I decided to check out her site...
I'm so glad I did! We just received the photos last week, and they are great. We've gotten all sorts of compliments on their artistry. Her style was right up my alley, so I knew that they would be great anyway, but I am beyond pleased with how they turned out!
Meg is lovely to work with too. Extremely sweet and approachable. We even got to meet her adorable new baby boy, who was very sweet.
On the day of Meg showed up early, and although I'm not sure I'm pretty certain that she stayed late. She kept us on track before the wedding and amazingly moved our families quickly and efficiently through group photos (a chore, I assure you).
She worked within our restricted budget and I can't thank her enough for that. I can't imagine what we would have done without her!
Lakeview Inn was a lovely venue for our wedding and reception. Scott and Cathy were a pleasure to work with. The grounds were beautiful, and they were very accommodating to our needs.
My only qualm was that they were quite difficult to get in touch with at times. I think they travel a lot, and sometimes they didn't answer emails for up to a month.
However, the Inn itself is great. Most of the wedding party stayed there over the weekend and we had a great time. The rooms are beautifully appointed, clean, and comfortable. As an added perk, on the morning of the wedding Cathy even brought us donuts from a great local shop.
We felt very comfortable with our whole experience with the Inn, and would absolutely recommend them to future brides & grooms.
