We had a great fall wedding in Reading, PA. Reading is a great option for a more affordable wedding with the convenience of being near Philadelphia. Most vendors who cover the Philly area are willing to come to Reading with no extra cost and the venues are much more affordable then those in Philly. We got a great reception hall but because of the limited number of halls available in the area we were not able to get a Saturday in October at 9 months out. However, our Friday wedding turned out great and made it much easier to book our other vendors. We prefer to give our business to smaller non-chain stores and we feel we got a great value and service from all of our local vendors.
Great little bridal salon in Lititz, PA. They have a large selection of bridal gowns, many under $1000, from well known designers such as Da Vinci. They have a nice selection of bridesmaids' and flower girl dresses but their mother's dresses are a little on the grandmotherly side. My mother was in her mid-fifties when I got married and dresses conservatively and she even felt that the dresses were more suited to my grandmother. The shop does their own alterations, very good quality and price, and the pressing of the dress is included unlike in many of the large shops we went to. The atmosphere is very relaxed and we never felt pressured into buying a dress. Also, they don't sell prom dresses so if you don't need to worry about fighting through high schoolers to pick out your dress.
Fantastic florist. The owner takes care of the wedding flowers and is very relaxed and willing to work with customers. All of the flowers that were provided by Cedar Hill were beautiful and held up for several days after the wedding. The price seemed very reasonable. We went in with a very vague idea of what we wanted and gave more general ideas and colors we would like and this turned out quite well, however, they are definitely used to dealing with brides with a more concrete idea of what they want and will do their very best to get you exactly what you want.
Quick and easy to get measurements and order the tuxes. They have a good amount of selection and don't require the all of the groomsman to be there at the same time. Everything was exactly what we ordered and went off without a hitch.
Absolutely wonderful! Our photos are beautiful and he was unobtrusive, polite, and respectful throughout the entire day. We now have digital copies of all of our photos as well as a beautiful album and 4x6's of all of our pictures. The pictures on his website give a great example of the beauty of his work and are not just a few good ones he has taken over the years. We could not have asked for a better person to capture one of the most important days of our lives.
We decided to have fruit tarts instead of the traditional wedding cakes. Wegmans only required 2 days notice, we gave them a week, for 25 of their large tarts. They were beautiful and delicious and ended up being about the same price as a cake would have.
We did a candy bar for our favors and got most of the candy from the Weaver Nut Company. They have a fantastic selection of candy, including local companies like Wilbur, for incredibly low prices.
Great little place on Jeweler's Row in Philadelphia. We bought our wedding bands here. The price was very reasonable and they had very quick delivery. Since they have and in house jeweler (who is very talented), they are willing to work with you and do anything from resizing to creating something unique just for you. We had them engrave our rings and my husband had them resize his ring after our honeymoon all of which was done while you wait.
My husband bought my engagement ring here. After our engagement, we went to look at wedding bands and I was able to experience the shop myself. They have a very nice selection of jewelry and the salespeople are MUCH friendlier, to young college students at least, than in the other State College jewelers. Their prices were good for the area but higher than Jeweler's Row in Philly where there is more competition.
AAA booked all of our honeymoon plans except for our flight to and from FL, they did not have a good price for flights. We had a rather complicated honeymoon with a cruise preceded by 2 days in Universal Studios Orlando. Everything ended up turning out OK, but there were some issues with getting the rental car and shuttle from the cruise to the airport booked correctly. And of course the Reading AAA office is always a circus on Saturday mornings which is the only time we were able to get there.
We went on a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise out of Tampa, FL. October cruising is a little iffy since hurricanes still present an issue. During our cruise a hurricane was stalled over the northern Caribbean which meant we had rough seas most of our trip. We ended up with one canceled stop and a canceled excursion on another stop. Even so we still had a wonderful time and the amenities on the ship were fantastic. The food was great and the people were wonderful.
Gorgeous hotel designed to look like a Mediterranean town. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, the pool was amazing, and the hotel restaurants were fantastic. One of our favorite things at the hotel was the water ferry into the Universal Studio Parks. The hotel works with the studios so you can charge in-park purchases to the hotel and even have the items sent back to your room so you don't have to carry them around all day. The hotel was extra romantic at night and seemed completely secluded from the parks.
Absolutely wonderful. Their wedding coordinator Mercedes is fantastic, we went in with a rather vague idea of what we wanted and she worked her magic and made the reception fantastic. The food was wonderful with extremely generous portions of both the appetizers and main courses. For a location that is in the city of Reading it is extremely beautiful and there is a private parking lot for the property which is free on the weekends.
Beautiful church and wonderful pastor. The church is a bit small though and can probably fit at the very most a little over 200 people. We were both members of this congregation so I am not sure if there is a fee if you are not a member.
Great place to shop. These are the real deal outlets not just high end shops that sell clothing made specifically for their "outlet" stores. T
We stayed in this hotel the night before flying to Florida for our honeymoon. It was very convenient to have to the 24-hour shuttles to and from the airport and the Park and Jet was a great price for parking our car in a guarded lot in Philly for 9 days. We arrived late and left early so we didn't get to use many of the amenities but the rooms were clean and reasonable. However, there is a certain odor throughout the entire hotel due to it being on the Delaware riverfront, its not that the hotel isn't clean the river just has a unique odor. Also, the elevators were a little frightening because of the loud noises and shaking that happened when you rode them.
