Our wedding was perfect. I loved it and wished it lasted a lot longer than one night. Even though I wanted an outside wedding, we chose a November wedding date in Portland, OR because I knew I couldn't guarantee good weather even in the summer. I had no expectations for the weather and even purchased 24 big white umbrellas in case it rained. We ended up having perfect weather! Everything was beautiful and our guests had a wonderful time.
He claims to be the best in town but I have to wonder how the others are. I don't know that he's worth the money. We had a cocktail hour where I provided him with all the music, he then repeated this music during dinner. I provided 2 hours of music (cd I burned) to the DJ, who in my mind should provide it all. The sound quality was good except that many of my guests could not hear him. I was unimpressed with his lack of follow through, for being "the best DJ." I contacted him every time, reminded him that I do not live in the area (which for the price we paid, I think he should have noted somewhere) and had to repeatedly try to get ahold of him in order to make sure he had the information I needed him to have. He also repeatedly mispronounced the grooms daughters name, which we corrected him on several times and reminded him of before the wedding. My guests were happy with the music and we all danced the night away but I think any dj could have played the music I picked.
Salon Nyla is an Aveda salon in the Embassy Suites Hotel where we stayed. My mom kept telling me she thought I should do my own make up and I kept insisting I needed to get it done for my wedding because of lighting and photos. And because it was my wedding day so I wanted everything to be extra special. My mom, myself and a bridesmaid got our make up done and we were so unhappy. I did speak to the owner the following day and she was very apologetic and gave me a gift certificate so that was nice although a little too late. I expected the aveda salon to provide fantastic service with a knowledgeable staff. I have recieved better makeovers at the makeup counters at Nordstrom. The lighting was horrible where I got my makeup done, I had to go into a different room in order to see what the makeup looked like so I had to wonder how the girl knew what she was doing. Anyway, I was pretty scared for awhile because I actually hated the makeup. The girl doing my makeup was not knowledgeable at all about the products or the technique to use the product. Finally, she was able to get the makeup right but I really expected to be brought in and taken care of. My mom had a problem too - the girl doing her makeup didn't know what the color marroon was. She did not take direction well and did my moms makeup way too dark, which my mom had asked her not to do. I should have gotten a trial run but didn't think it was that necessary at an Aveda salon.
Eric was our photographer and Ramona was the 2nd photographer. Wow! they were fantasic! The guys liked him, the girls liked him. He was calm and smooth and got the pictures taken in a quick fashion. They listened to what I wanted and worked with me on our package (don't be afraid to ask for what you want!) Our pictures are so beautiful! Our slide show is amazing. Holland Studios is definitely worth the price!!!!!
I needed some alterations on my dress but didn't know where to go where I live. My friend suggested Anna's Bridal, which she used for her dress, so I called and asked if they could do all my alterations the week of my wedding. My dress was done in 3 days. They were awesome, once I made my appointment I didn't worry about my dress at all. I wish I knew of Anna's Bridal from the beginning of my wedding planning!
The hotel is very nice, the rooms are big and comfortable. We did run into a few problems, I had welcome bags for our hotel guests and for some reason the valet had problems delivering them to the right rooms. My mother in law never received hers even though the guy told me he handed it right to her. I still wonder who he handed it to and why some random person received a welcome bag with my itinerary and a cd of me and my husband on it. My mom also reserved the wine celler for our day-after brunch. There's a fee to reserve the room and they had us in the books however when my mom went down to check on the room it was locked so she had someone open it only to find it not set up at all. The hotel staff quickly set up the room and compensated my mom for this but she was pretty upset and these are things you should not have to worry about.
