Our wedding was awesome! It was a combination of traditional and less-formal details, and was a perfect reflection of us as a couple. We tried to do everything in an affordable manner and using Leach Botanical Garden and Something Borrowed really helped with that. July was perfect in Portland and we didn't even have a rain backup plan (risky, but it was late July...) We did use program fans though in case it was too warm. Weddingmapper was a great resource for the bridal party who were almost all from out of town. Wish I'd discovered it sooner.
Leach Garden is a gorgeous, affordable site for a medium-size outdoor or small indoor wedding. The natural decor eliminates the need for too much other decor and in the summer, it's just gorgeous! Their event coordinator is extremely helpful but not overbearing, and you can use whatever food you want, as well as beer/wine (with an appropriate server and/or insurance policy.) There is no dancing allowed (other than a first dance, father/daughter, etc.) because there is not really a space for it. They also don't allow loud party music since it's in a residential neighborhood. Neither of these were a problem for us. Our only issue with the space was timing. The flat fee gives you six hours for everything, which includes setup and breakdown. We paid for an extra hour and it was still not enough time. We only had about 50 people there, so I'd recommend buying at least two extra hours, maybe more. Overall, highly recommended!!
The Courtyard Marriott Southeast was the perfect location to use as our hotel. The hotel is nice, rooms are comfortable, and they were accommodating of us and the wedding party. We partly booked it because of the proximity to Max and the free area shuttle they offer but I don't think anyone actually ended up using it. We never got to eat in The Bistro either, but the coffee in the morning there was great.
Laurelhurst is a gorgeous park. We did our engagement photos here in the fall (also highly recommended) so it was an obvious choice for us to use again. We really wanted the rehearsal dinner to be a fun, relaxed event, so we reserved picnic site F, ordered Pizzicato delivery, brought wine, beer, sodas, ice, and tablecloths, and it was perfect. (And yes, you can have alcohol if you reserve a site.) We had plenty of space (and time) to rehearse and no one in the park bothered us or paid any attention. I'm sure we'll be using this park for many future celebrations. :)
