Amy and Robert's Wedding

Our day was a mix of joy and stress. Not everything went as planned, but the important stuff--getting married and spending time with our friends and family--was great! I went out of my way to find locations that were unique and met our needs and the church and reception sites were great for us.

Arthur's Jewelers

Wonderful independent jeweler. Not a bargain place, but they work within your budget without high-pressure sales. They make sure your ring(s) look great and stay that way with ongoing maintenance checks. Ask for April--she's great!

Wedding Day Beauty

On one hand, my hair and make-up (and that of my two attendants) looked great and lasted all day. Jackie and Candace were very nice (Jackie's a big talker). On the other hand, they were VERY slow and caused us to be so late we couldn't do photos before the ceremony. Candace even took a color appointment right in the middle of our time so she wasn't even available the whole time. The disrespect of our time added so much stress to an already stressful day that I can't say I'd recommend them. Plus, they've moved locations and their website isn't even updated yet. They're probably fine for day-to-day services, but not for a wedding!

Ceremony Sites

A small in-the-round modern Catholic church. It seats perhaps 150 if you only seat on the "front" side, but probably seats 400 if you use the full seating. Visually stunning architecture with vaulted ceiling. There's no long aisle for a procession (eight rows, to be exact), so if that's a big deal, this is not your church. The wedding coordinator didn't communicate well and was overly bossy, but Fr. Fitz is a great character and made the ceremony fun and personal.

Reception Sites

The Humanities Center is a lovely space for a smaller (less than 100) gathering. It's a vintage building right off Lake Phalen with great architectural character. It's much more affordable than traditional "wedding reception" venues(downside: hourly rate) and food was delicious. Very nice staff. The Humanities Center is a hidden jewel of a location for meetings or receptions! (There are also other spaces available besides the room we rented.)
