We wanted a downtown Omaha wedding, something uniquely "us" that wouldn't betray the modest budget we had to pay for it. By booking a non-profit art gallery that had never hosted a wedding ceremony and a restaraunt party hall in a historical building helped us acheive the wedding to fit our budget while impressing our guests. As a wedding photographer, I tell brides that no wedding is perfect, but I honestly cannot think of anything that went wrong on our big day, thanks in part to the vendors we chose!
Artists Agneta Gaines and Jean Mason did a great job assisting us in planning our ceremony for this location. Artist Marcia Joffe-Bouska was kind enough to bring in some of my favorite pieces of art to display right behind the 'altar' area. We were told they never held a wedding at their gallery before, and we are honored to be their first. They did such a good job and our guests complimented us on the uniqueness of the location and asked where we got the idea in the first place!
General Manager Pete Violi and Cyndi Murphy provided everything we could have asked for and more for our reception. The upstairs hall is simple, elegant, and spacious. Cyndi took care of all the details! Instead of rushing to place centerpieces before wedding photos, we were able to drop them off and she took care of it! At the end of the night she and her staff gathered all our decorations and we were able to pick them up the next day... an enormous load taken off of us!
We reserved a block of rooms for our wedding party at the Magnolia. I communicated with Amanda Forrester almost primarily through email, she was very prompt and responsive for all my needs. There was a mix up at check in time though... we were given a normal king room instead of the king suite upgrade we were promised. We agreed to take a loft suite instead at full price (figuring we'd sort it out later). The room was comfortable enough, but as one of the older parts of the hotel, had wood windowsills and cabinets with lots of chipping paint. The next day we discovered that one of my husband's cousin and his wife were incorrectly listed as the bride and groom! They apologized for the mistake and moved us into our promised suite which faced the courtyard and was BEAUTIFUL! It was a great room for me and my girls to have photos of us getting ready in. We were able to use the Winter Garden to take our group photos which was a godsend as it snowed the day of our wedding! Magnolia provided complimentary car service (in roomy, leather seated Escalades)to all our locations downtown. It was more comfortable than riding in a limo!
