May 24, 2008...What a beautiful day!
As in all weddings there is always something that you wish could have gone a little differently, but all in all how could anything be wrong when two people who truly love each other are united together surrounded by their families and good friends to wish them well.
Wedding Mapper is a great resource and I recommend it to anyone getting ready to take the plunge!
I bought my husbands wedding band here and he has purchased several beautiful pieces for me here as well. They have become our #1 choice for fine jewelry.
I Do Bridal is an exceptional bridal salon. In February of each year they have a huge 1 day sale where a large selection of gowns are marked anywhere from 10%-80% off and all proceeds go to charity.
I arrived early and found a beautiful gown at 80% off, what a boon for my budget! Employee's were wonderful and their alterations lady was spectacular!
Incredible cellist...what a talent, and what a pleasure to work with him. He also works with a pianist that is out of this world, although we chose to just go with Shaun Paul.
This is a very talented man whose name will be BIG one day.
Jeffery Moorehouse is an incredibly talented and wonderful man to work with. His creativity is beyond belief and his ability to be invisible is even more astounding. Hope to work with him again one day.
All one has to say is Pro Sports Club. It is a world class spa and fitness facility and Julie who did and has done my pedicures for some time is also world class! She is a very talented nail tech and make-up artist not to mention, warm, friendly, funny, and an all around pleasure to know.
Our wedding had a fishing theme(an elegant fishing theme, not redneck), since that interest brought Mark and I together. And coming from South Carolina we just knew we had to have fried catfish on the menu. After a trip to the gun range, Mark best friend took him to this little place in Renton for lunch. When Mark came home he said he had to take me there, that they had incredible catfish...he did, and it was like going back home. Bill and Carol and wonderful people and so easy to work with. Not only do they have incredible catfish, they have a smoked prime rib that is out of this world, plus their prices beat anyone else we had interviewed. Bill fried the catfish on site, and in addition we also had smoked chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, tossed green salad, and corn bread. This ol' southen' belle was in pure heaven.
Salon Melini in Renton is wonderful. I am extremely picky about my hair stylist and it takes me a while to find someone I really feel comfortable and confident in. Kathy at Salon Melini is it! She made my hair look absolutely beautiful and natural which helped to make me feel beautiful that day. So if you are picky like me...go see Kathy at Salon Melini, or any of the many other wonderful stylists there.
My groom loves an old fashioned straight razor shave, so when The Art of Shaving moved into Bellevue Square he was thrilled! Unfortunately the barber he started with is no longer there, but the new one is also very good. Mark looked like a million bucks that day and he felt like it as well.
My husband is 1/2 Japanese so to also infuse our wedding reception with at least a taste of the Asian culture. My husband enjoys Japanese food, but he is crazy about the Kau Kau in Seattle. So instead of having pulled pork, we went with a full Kau Kau pig...let me tell you...this pork is to die for. It just about melts in your mouth. I think it was probably the first thing to be picked clean off the buffet line! For a small fee they came and set it up. When I say set it up I mean that they take this pig and reassemble it to look like the traditional whole hog...OMG, incredible. They also have the best duck that I believe I have ever tasted...check them out, especially if you are having an asian or asian themed wedding.
In addition to my southern roots I also have Irish and Scottish roots as well, and have loved bagpipe music since a child. My now husband is extremely hard to buy for and I wanted to surprise him with something special. Last Christmas season I discovered that he too had a love for the bagpipes so a plan began. After a little research I discovered the Seattle Firefighters Pipe and Drum Band, incredible! You can hire anywhere from a lone piper to the entire band. I hired 1 piper and 1 drummer and it was just right for our indoor reception. Our guest were thrilled and quite impressed with the talent of these two fine gentlemen. Plus it gave us an opportunity to thank them for their service and to remember all those that were lost on 9/11. I look forward to hiring them again!
I got an incredible deal on all our center piece vases and battery operated candles, glass rock and river rock for
our center pieces. It also helped that by going on to the Glade web site that I was able to get $5 off coupons for each of the candles. I could only print 2 on my computer but with the help of my friends we got more than enough to cover all that we needed.
The reason Merry Beth Turpin is the #1 wedding planner in the Seattle area is because she IS the best. We learned so much from Merry Beth and recommend her to anyone planning a wedding. Unfortunately we had to postpone our wedding and when we rescheduled Merry Beth was unavailable...sigh.
Unfortunately due to a family situation, our original DJ had to bow out...much to our disappointment. Unfortunately the DJ that we went with was even more disappointing, even though he came across as being a great find. Not only was he not the MC we had asked for, and believed he would be, he came dressed as if he were going to the grocery store, and he didn't play the music requested during the dinner hour(classical) nor the special musical numbers that were requested, except for Mark's and my first dance and his dance with his mom. He is a pleasant enough man but I would never, ever use him again or recommend his services to anyone!
For 5 days we enjoyed the comforts of a beautiful suite with his and hers bathrooms and everything we could possibly want at our fingertips. I can't wait to go back!
