We had a wonderful wedding that everyone can't stop talking about! We were so excited that so many friends and family members traveled for this day, that meant so much to us! It was a bit on the chilly side, but we'd rather have that than snow, rain, or 105* weather!! The view was beautiful, the ceremony was perfectly us, and the party was soooo awesome! Our bridal party and their guests surprised us during the Matron of Honor's (my sister) speech with a flash mob to the Beetlejuice song!! It was AMAZING!!! On top of that, my father did a special showing of his Charlie Daniels skills with his fiddle and The Devil Went Down to Georgia! Everyone had such a great time and we are so thankful that we were the only ones who noticed all the imperfections...though some noticed issues with Carmen almost immediately! Other than that, we want to do it all over again next weekend, but perhaps with another wedding contact at the Castle! :)
Awesome guy!! Super friendly and fit right into our crowd! We loved that he took a lot of candid photos...we aren't the type to pose for 3000 pictures. All around terrific experience!!
Can't say enough great things about Justin!! We hardly knew he was there as he quietly moved throughout the day/night with ease and confidence! Such a nice guy with a VERY quick turnaround! We had our montage back within days and our BEAUTIFULLY packaged DVD within 2 weeks! Loved his work and HIGHLY recommend him!
Very upset with Belhurst as our main attraction, Brusters, were shoved in a corner with no lighting and no formal announcement. We are SO sorry!! Todd and Diane and their daughter did such a fantastic job and are all around fabulous people!! Everyone loved the ice cream menus we created and loved how quickly they received their request. They deserved to get treated so much better than they were because they did AWESOME!!!! And such a great rate as well!!!
We loved Rick at Music Masters! He kept up the tempo and got the crowd riled up! Was a little sad that we didn't get to do our 'first scoop' (we had an ice cream sundae bar rather than a cake) and didn't play the right song for the Anniversary dance (we discussed and agreed it would be my parents' song as they would be dancing for a while) but despite those two things that no one else noticed...he was a perfect fit! We told him we wanted an awesome party where everyone danced their behinds off..and he definitely hooked us up! Super sweet, well-mannered guy!
Lisa was such a pleasure to work with but we were a bit disappointed that the color of the lights didn't match. We asked for a bright purple color and received some lavender and some fuscia colored lights that obviously didn't match. Again, not a big deal to anyone else but us, but I would definitely recommend them as they had to design everything via phone and email seeing that we lived 7 hours away!
Based on what our guests said, we obviously made a mistake by only booking one shuttle for everyone. He ran a bit behind when shuttling everyone and the shuttle was so crowded the breaks started squealing, but that was more our fault than theirs. Very friendly people with great service although it was a bit overpriced..even to extend the service for one hour.
Although the Castle is such a beautiful venue in a great location (one of the reasons we chose to have our wedding there) Carmen was, to say the least, uninterested in us and unwilling to return calls or emails. We live 7 hours away and our parents 2 hours away, therefore our main form of communication was via phone/email. She went months without answering 1 call/email. My parents even had to drive there unexpectedly and demand to see her after weeks of not hearing from her. When calling to follow up on yet another email she didn't respond to and also to discuss our next payment, she immediately called me back because she thought I was calling to 'inquire about a wedding in November'. I called her back within 5 minutes to explain the misunderstanding.....and never got a call back. Amazing she called within the hour when she thought it was new business, but didn't think twice about calling someone back who was already on her books...for the next month. Other than the lack of support and interest from Carmen, it was a beautiful place.
We did have a blast, as did our friends and family, but yet again, we had issues with Carmen. I asked her repeatedly in emails that went unanswered as well as the day of the wedding while we had our rehearsal that morning, for her to make sure a screen was setup near the bar, along with tons of props we bought so guests could enjoy a little homemade photo booth. She assured us it would be taken care of. Nope. She never set it up and we hardly saw her during the ceremony(althought guests mentioned she was often found outside smoking). On top of that, the Ice Cream Sundae bar (our main dessert as there was no cake) was setup in a corner without any lights. Carmen was also overheard talking negatively about Brusters right in front of them and was rude to them upon their arrival. Not only did we not have our 'first scoop' instead of the cutting of the cake, but my husbands groomscake was brought out at a random time which made everyone wonder what the heck was going on. (It was supposed to happen right after the 'first scoop'). It was said to me many times, from various guests and family members, that she came off as rude, though she didn't have time for us (even when we were the only event at the castle that night), and often careless. I can't say how disappointed we (my parents, my husband and myself) are with her service. My mom had a hard time biting her tongue about the lack of effort she put into this and how ridiculous she had been during this entire planning process. Sad thing is, a friend of mine decided to book Belhurst about 3 months ago and emailed me some questions about the place. Apparently she is already getting the cold-shoulder from Carmen as she has not heard from her since they booked! We had no other issues with anyone at the Castle in terms of the ceremony or reception, but seeing that Carmen was the only person we could contact to get info/answers about our wedding...we had a horrible experience with her which made it hard to overlook the day of. :(
On top of the horrible experiences we had with Carmen, the wedding contact at the Castle, we found out 9 months prior to our wedding that there were other college events going on in that area and that most of the hotels were completely booked already. When my sister called to check on rooms at the castle, they had given every single room away for this college event...even though there was supposed to be two wedding at the Castle that weekend. There wasn't even a room for the girls to get ready in prior to the ceremony. After getting an earfull from family members, the Castle finally opened up rooms for our wedding. Needless to say, we decided on a hotel elsewhere..at a much cheaper rate. Didn't want to risk having any more surprises from them.
In addition to that hiccup, while there for my hair run-through at Isabella Salon and Spa, I was expecting to be with Brandon, the manager, but discovered--that morning--that someone else...much younger (and nastier) was going to be doing my hair, "just because she wanted to". She was very nice at first and listened to what I had in mind, but was then joined by another stylist where a heated discussion about other brides began. I was told there was a bride who was "just awful, so stupid, ridiculous, and annoying" and that the stylist "probably won't call her back because she is just so stupid". They went back and forth bashing this bride and other brides about their ridiculous requests and how they were "purposely not responding the way they should" because "they couldn't stand some of them". I got very uncomfortable as they continued this conversation. One of these "awful" brides must have called because the ony stylist yelled across the salon to the girl doing my hair that so-and-so was on the phone and my stylist said "oh dear god, just hang up! I am NOT talking to her today!" and then proceeded to complain to me for an additional 10 minutes. They laughed about the entire situation. I was very uncomfortable and couldn't help but think how unprofessional they had been acting. On top of that, my hair looked awful and was nothing like what I had hoped for. I canceled my appointment and went to Posh about 5 minutes away from Belhurst and had a WONDERFUL, very professional, enjoyable experience.
Everyone enjoyed their stay at The Inn on the Lake. We actually looked into having our wedding here instead, but it wouldn't accommodate the large party we had. After staying here, our friends decided to get married here! Great staff, great location, very clean!
