We love the Moana Surfrider. The hotel is so beautiful! The food was great and service superb!
This venue deserves no stars and I would not recommend this venue. The staff was unprofessional, unorganized, and not realiable. They made constant changes to wedding plans although there was a signed contract (i.e. pricing on the Food & Beverage, changes to the menu, changes to the seating chart, and changes to bar space). My wedding planner and I thought that they were frustrating to work with. In addition, their events manager is not qualified to organize events there - I had to send weekly emails to the manager, which were organized 1) in section by categories 2) beneath each categories were instructions in bullet form 3) I had to color code the instructions and underline the most important information. I followed up with 2-3 calls to the manager's voicemail because they do not pick up during working hours. The manager took poor notes and I had to set up this procedure to get things done. Everything was completed last minute by the Beach house although we had been planning the event for 7 months.
I would not recommend this hotel. I grew up in Hawai'i and have stayed at the Moana in the past. In addition, I work in hotel & lodging industry. Recently, the standards at this hotel has declined. The rooms have not been renovated and there is a bug&insect problem (more so than other hotels - I have stayed at the Ala Moana, Aston Beach Hotel, Halekulani and Sheraton Waikiki recently and none of these hotels have the same problem). In addition, the hotel does not cater to kama'aina. If you reserve several rooms and would like to have them "connecting," the hotel does not allow this if you are using the kama'aina rate. The hotel will only let you have "adjacent" rooms, which means that they WILL NOT be "connecting" and instead they will be on the same floor.
