We had our wedding reception on the Becky Thatcher, traveling down the CT river. Everyone was saying what a cool idea it was to have the reception on the boat... it was definitely a nice change of scenery. You can't go for an overly formal feel on this boat, what with the green all-weather carpeting, the yellowish florescent lighting, and the orange live vests lining the ceiling... but it sure does make a great party. The reason we gave it 3 of 5 stars is that the boat people were very restrictive about certain things, which made planning very frustrating. First off, there was a VERY small time-frame in which to set up the boat. No glasses for the bar (all plastic), specific minimums and maximums of chairs and tables, only a small (2-3 person) band allowed, that sort of thing. They also weren't able to provide much help in setting up the boat or breaking it down, so it fell on our friends and the caterer to do all of that. We had a great time when all was said and done, but had I known about all the restrictions I might have opted for a more traditional reception. If you go for this, make sure you get all your numbers and details straightened out up front!
