BayView Hotel-Ristorante Barolo--Il Pirata Restaurant

The Historic BayView Hotel was built in 1870 and is local family owned and operated, we are delighted to serve homemade Italian food during breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as while we host weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions, anniversaries, private parties, special events and off-site catering. We also serve wood fired pizza that was rated one of the TOP FIVE in Santa Cruz County. We are a beautifully decorated Bed and Breakfast Hotel with period antiques, tiffany lamps, antique chandeliers, featherbeds, and honeymoon suites with romance tubs for two.

A bit of history to the hotel...

The BayView Hotel is a Historical Landmark in Aptos.

The Bay View sits on a portion of “Rancho Aptos” granted to General Rafael Castro by Mexican Governor Jose Figueroa in 1833. The Hotel was built in 1870 by Joseph Arano, a French Basque who in 1862 married Castro’s youngest daughter Augustias.

1870~“Anchor House”

1881~King Kalamata of Hawaii visits the Bay View Hotel.

1883~Fredrick A. Hihn constructs the narrow gauge Santa Cruz Watsonville Railroad straight through the town of Aptos & the Bay View adds a third floor.

1890~Hihn Apple Packing Plant built behind the Bay View Hotel today the site of Village Fair Antiques Shop.

1953~BayView Hotel moved 118 feet west with redwood logs and pack mules.

1961~Southern Pacific Railroad tries to block off the entrance of the Bay View Hotel. Spurring the creation of the “Aptos Ladies Tuesday Evening Society”. Dressed in period clothing they picketed for the loss of commercial trade. Southern Pacific was defeated and the Famous Guinness Book “Worlds” Shortest Parade” was inaugurated.

1989~Loma Prieta earthquake hits Aptos on Oct 17th, topping the richter scale at 7.1. The Bay View stands strong.
