We had done a lot I planning and preparation for our big day. We found the venue lacked in preparation for our event with disorganization and as the last reviewer had mentioned, a very poor line of communication.
The venue was very nice, practical, and affordable, however, be aware!!!
We were promised backdrop included on our price, verbally, but the day of our wedding we had no backdrop and were shown "very unorganized" documents stating we didn't have it written down. Therefore, I was forced to provide a $400 cheque ad scramble to locate a backdrop which we were very unhappy about and there was no explanation from the organizers.
The other issue with this venue was their "open bar". We paid an increased amount for open bar which is typical and expected. However, Octaviens ran out of almost all alcohol around 10pm, and this includes the time the bar was closed during dinner service. Many guests were unhappy with this as we had offered and paid for the service, yet they ran out very early. And in saying this, we had a few people cancel last minute, leaving our numbers at 85 guests.
Just be aware of what you're getting into and get EVERYTHING you agree upon in writing.
The hall was beautiful, but we had some troubles with the caterer. They didn't give us a price estimate until a week before the wedding, even though in the contract payments are scheduled starting months before the wedding.
They also added lots of fees into our bill that we had to call and ask them to take them off. For example, they were charging us for linens that we didn't need because our decorator was supplying them. They also were charging us an extra $15 per bottle of wine for a stocking fee - when they were already charging us much more than what they were worth to begin with.
