Just a few miles south of Dana Point is Casa Romantica in San Clemente. It is gorgeous. I attended a wedding there and the ceremony was overlooking the ocean. I'm not promoting this caterer but they have a nice picture of it on their website: http://www.atyourservicecaters.com/at_your_service_caters_locations_casa_romantica.html. I don't know the 'style' of location you are looking for but look at city space as well, for example in San Clemente you can rent the Ole Hansen Club (http://san-clemente.org/sc/standard.aspx?pageid=627) or the Historic Fire House (http://sanclementebanquetfacility.com/). In Dana Point, when I was planning my wedding we had the ceremony at Lantern Bay Park and I entertained the idea of renting a large tent and having the reception also in the Park (ultimately I didn't have it there though). Salt Creek Beach (north beach) also allows catered event space, right on the beach, which I also considered. Hope this helps, good luck!
Very helpful! Thank you! Thank you!!
Oh, I think the Ocean Institute in Dana Point Harbor also allows catered events like a wedding too. Have fun! My wedding was also in September, but in 2007. The weather was perfection!
We had the reception at Blue Laguna restaurant...worked with Sarah on the arrangenents
We had our wedding at the OC Sailing and Events Center in the Harbor. If you want to do it yourself they have an inside and outside areas and are very inexpensive - $2k to rent the space. If you have a larger budget - I would recommend the Ocean Institute - I think that is around $5k-$6k to rent the facility. There are parks for just the wedding that other people have mentioned also there are the restaurants like cannons but I think they are more full service.
Most of the venues above have a limited list of approved caterers. Ole hansen is small but great and is flexible. I had my wedding at cannons restaurant. Beautiful and reasonable price. Their food but your dj.
I was reading a few posts about the OC sailings and it sounded like it was a pain in the butt to rent this place due to the liquor license and having to get a bartender. How did you like it? Did you have to sweep and mop the floors after you left?
This reply is for the OC Sailing and Events center.
I hired a wedding planner to deal with all of the set up and clean up - the one thing that was most important for me was not having to worry about those issues on my wedding day. I didn't have to worry about permits either because Priscilla had a good relationship with Janine - the lady that rents the place. I got a full wedding package from at your service caters - it worked out great for me. My suggestion is to get a wedding planner who has worked there before. If you do it all yourself it will probably be a pain.
Also we hired a bartender from our wedding planner and bought our own alcohol so there was open bar and it was a very fun wedding! The bartender was $250 and our guests just tipped him. Since its open bar the bartender did very well in tips :) I was worried about all that too but having someone else deal with it was seriously worth the money for me. All of our guests still talk about what a perfect wedding it was and I was very happy with it.
We had our ceremony and reception at Salt Creek Beach and it was gorgeous. Our ceremony was on the sand just before sunset and our cocktail hour, reception, dancing, etc. was on the flat area above (included in site rental). Rental fees for permits, park ranger, lifeguard and insurance are very affordable (from County of OC Parks and Rec) and you can use whomever you would like for anything, catering, liquor, etc.. We also hired a golf cart service so people wouldn't have to go up and down that steep hill. Its a gorgeous site and your guests don't have to travel between a church and reception site. Highly recommend it!
You all have been really helpful! Thank you so much!!
