The Ashton Villa. I used it for my wedding reception February 2011. It was perfect. Beautiful, a little traditional, very flexible. The woman in charge was extremely nice, and very relaxed unline the woman at the the Galvez, she was uptight and their prices were outrageous. The Ashton Villa people also recommended my caterer/florist/decorator. He was amazing! He worked his way around my budget with only minimal pressure to add extra things. Some caterers I spoke to tried to put on a lot of pressure to add all these "little Extras" that really added up, he was very nice about it and let it drop if I said no.

Hope this helps
Look at the Texas Seaport Museum. You can rent the ship, the dock, and the museum for $750 (weekend price from 2010, may have changed). You can do your whole wedding there or just the reception and have a caterer. You can even stock up on your own adult beverages and provide them for guests to cut down on catering costs. They are very easy to work with! Also, it is right next to the Fisherman's Wharf so you can always go there for reception if you want something more traditional.
Check it out if you are looking for something fun that won't break the bank!
We just had our ceremony on March 25th at St. Joseph's Church & reception at the Garten Verein and we absolutely loved it. Both venues are very unique and their rental rates are very affordable. Should you opt against getting married at the church you can have your ceremony right outside the Garten Verein in their gazebo/park grounds. Extra bonus you can bring in your own caterer, wine/beer and decorations. However, they do have tables & chairs which are included in the rental fee. Contact Vicki with the Galveston Historical Foundation for more details & availability (FYI.. the Historical Foundations venues do book quick).
I second the Ashton Villa recommendation. Our wedding in 2009 was amazing, and we were able to hold the ceremony in the garden next door. The photos were amazing. Good luck!
