the victorian veranda inn is an awesome, beautiful, place but that is in lawrence. what is it about the lake that you do not like? maybe that could help narrow down options.

I did think about Ward Meade Park. May check it out. Might look into the country club too! We really wanted to do it at the lake but it ended up being $400 when the website says $200. We'd only use it for a couple hours + a little decorating time so we thought $400 was a little ridiculous.

My husband and I have owned CreekSide at Berryton, a historic property three miles south of Lake Shawnee near Topeka, since 1984. Yes! I think ward mead park will be great! I actually am going to be shooting my sister in law's wedding there and there is so much to see ad do since there are many background options to choose from in one little spot. I also came across this website http://www.weddingsintopeka.com/wedding-planners-venues.html and saw the venue called Shady Wood Lane. It doesn't say much on the website but it did seem to be within a reasonable budget. Since they only take cash, however, I would hope they have a contract to verify that you have reserved your date. I would also look into CreekSide since Berryton does not seem too far away. Anyway, I hope this all helps! Congratulations on your engagement!
