I'm your girl! I just got married on Dec 31, 2011 in Galveston and I can answer all of your questions, happily! Without a doubt, I 100% recommend Bob Christensen from Carriage Caterers to be your reception planners. HE DOES EVERYTHING and does it with style. He is really friendly and cares about his work. The best part is, he's thorough and I think he was actually quite reasonably priced. He does it all - caters (and boy is it yummy!), he does his own cakes (or finds someone who will do what you want), does the flowers, does the rentals (anything from tables to chairs to trees to tents), he even decorates the tables (with fine china and nice cutlery), provides the servers, and even does the set-up and clean-up. I can't brag about him enough. Here is the website with his contact info (it's not a great website but I promise you, he's the best!). http://www.carriagecaterers.info/
We used a photographer from my home town, so I can't recommend any local photographers. Here is the list that I was given by the lady who is in charge of our reception venue (and she's done a lot of weddings). Hope that helps!!

Congratulations! You will be glad you picked Galveston! We originally were considering the Tall Ship Elissa for our wedding, but with my fiance's moms guest list, we just had too many people and decided on the Garten Verein instead for this April. We checked on several catering possibilities including meeting with Bob from Carriage caterers, and ended up working with Amy from Robinette Caterers. She is super and wants it to be what you want. Robinette Catering is in Seabrook, but they regularly do Galveston weddings. I suggest you definitely read reviews from sources other than carriage caterers website. We found some interesting ones that reinforced what we felt after meeting Bob. Email me if you have any questions about this or anything else like info on security guards, rental options etc. :-)
Hi! I was married on the Elissa back in 2010. The ship is such a beautiful place to get married! The people there will really work with you on getting your event coordinated (I didn't even use a wedding planner because everyone was so helpful). Our wedding was on the ship, but keep in mind that they have the indoor room in case the weather gets bad and you have to relocate. For our reception we went to the Fisherman's Wharf since it is right next door. People just walked over and the food was fantastic! The Elissa will let you have your reception out on the dock or inside if you are short on $ and just want to hire a caterer without booking a whole new venue. The floris I ised is right off Broadway in Galveston and they did an amazing job with the flowers and they have a bunch of experience working on the Elissa with events. My photographer was Slava Ivanov and he was tons of fun to work with! He was patient with me and my wedding party and got some really great shots of the wedding. He has experience shooting on the Elissa and is from League City so he is easily available. If you have any questions or need helpful hints or tips (getting a carriage ride is with the $) let me know and I would be happy to help in any way I can!

Best wishes and good luck with your planning!
Well, here's an update. I spoke with Becky and the ELISSA is being dry docked. She said they "think" it will be back the first week in Oct but will not know for sure until July. Due to this I think we will be changing venues. Thank you all so much for your help. :)
Well that is a shame....but when we were originally planning to visit the Elissa, she did end up being gone several weeks longer in "dry dock" that they had planned, so better to know now and make other plans. Check our the Menard House if you are considering 80 or less at your wedding. Not only is it reasonable, and adorable inside and outside, but there is a gazebo at the Menard House that can be used.......
Ok Thank you julopp57! I will check it out right now!!
