We ended up not doing a beach wedding on Siesta Key because of all of the craziness with a permit and set up times that are dictated by the Parks & Rec department. They make you have a permit from when the chairs are set up to the time the area is broken down and cleaned up. I believe it is a 2 hour minimum for the beach. My suggestion is if you can hire someone to help out with those details, do it. We did it all ourselves, but it was a LOT of work.
While we were planning it was a lot easier to talk to vendors on the phone instead of e-mail. Some things we talked about and then I liked when I got a quote in writing, but it was best when it was a voice. A voice can tell you how that persons attitude is or if they will be the right person to work with. Give the Jamaica Royale a call on Monday, they might have some great ideas to help you out with a location.
We stayed at the Jamaica Royale when we got married. I didn't check into having the wedding there, because Sunweddings already had everything arranged for the public beach area, but I did ask while we were there and they do weddings too. Give them a call. We really enjoyed our stay there and they grounds/pools were great!
Thanks guys! And its great to finally see that someone else has stayed at Jamaica Royale! I was almost getting a little worried not being able to find many people who have stayed there and actually startedto wonder if there was a reason there prices were so reasonable! :) Well I will definitely give them a call tomorrow to see what they might be able to do for us. Ill be happy when I can get all these details done! Amy, we are doing most of this ourselves too! Thank goodness for wedding mapper and the people Ive met on here to give me such great help and advice. I sure do appreciate it!
Hi Sarah. We also hired SunWeddings to help us with the planning. They were amazing! Took care of beach permit among many other details.
Cannot help with Jamaica Royale info, but i do know that it was most helpful having someone help out.
Stress was definitely at a minimum level.
Congratulations and good luck to you guys!
Well I am a bit annoyed. I called Parks and Rec. and the lady on the phone was actually kinda rude..which was surprising because most people said the women are very nice who work there. Well anyway, I asked about sunset pointe and she very abruptly said "We dont allow weddings there..I dont even know what sunset pointe is" Ok...then she told me there are "NO receptions allowed on the beach" hmm ok there goes that as an idea to put up a tent on the beach and have it catered. So then I asked about the pavillion and she told me how much it was to rent out but then told me we couldnt have it past 9. So I guess if we do it there, we would probably have to have our wedding early in the day and not at sunset :(. Im a little disappointed. And really surprised how short the lady was on the phone with me. She sure acted like I was a major inconvenience to her.
Sorry to hear that Sarah. I had the same experience with the Parks and Rec department, that is why we ended up at Historic Spanish Point. Next time you call, ask to speak with their supervisor. You could do the wedding and reception earlier and use sunset time for photos and some alone time. It sucks when people are rude!
