You must choose Chandler Hill! Gorgeous views, delicious food, and the staff is so accomodating!
Thanks for your reply. If you don't mind my asking, did you have your wedding there? How many guests? What sold you on the venue? Are there any specific things you would request or do differently? Thanks so much.
Augusta or Montel both near Defiance. We used Sound of Success DJ's www.sosdjs.com or just put Sound of Success St Louis in google.
I didn't have my wedding at Chandler Hill, but I recently had my 30th birthday there. We had approximately 50 guests, but they can have up to 300 guests. Like I said, the food was delicious. For larger parties, I believe they use a catering company, though I'm not sure of the name. A friend of mine is having her wedding there early next summer though, and so far she has nothing but good things to say about the place and people. She is having about 180 people. I don't know how much she's paying.
The vineyard actually sits on top of a hill and overlooks a large pond and fountain, as well as a ton of trees. There is outdoor seating and a large covered patio that covers the length of the building. If it rains and the party must be moved outdoors, you won't be missing out on anything. Still gorgeous views, and the inside is slightly rustic and definitely romantic. It has large vaulted ceilings with beams, and pillar candle chandeliers. The bar is plenty large- they have beer on tap as well as wine.
The location isn't bad either. It's the first vineyard you approach as you arrive in Augusta via highway 40 to 94. So if you or your guests don't want to stay in one of the bed and breakfasts in the area, a quick drive will take you to Chesterfield Valley where there are plenty of hotels.
I hope this helps! And no, I don't work for the Vineyard ;)
We went to our niece's wedding at Hidden Lake Winery in Aviston, IL back in July. While I don't recommend having it on the hottest day in July, it would be perfect for a little cooler weather. The location is GORGEOUS! They have a wedding ceremony area in front of this waterfall thing - its man made but very pretty & real looking. There is also a lake there with fountains and little bridges - very picturesque!
The reception is held right there as well as it has a big white tent and a patio area overlooking the lake. The tent has kitchen facilities and full real bathrooms - flush toilets and sinks - NOT portopotties type.
She had about 250+ in the tent and that was about capacity - maybe a few more tables at most. She had a long head table too and a big dance floor.
The food was VERY good. They had a buffett but they had plated dinner options as well. Full bar - you have to drink their wine, but they have some pretty good ones there. Service was pretty good - nice people that I dealt with. They have lots of "upgrades" or you can do it pretty simple. She said it was pretty affordable but I didn't ask exactly how much per person.
The winery itself is beautiful and they have some banquet rooms there as well. Its in a wooded area with a beautiful little lake and a big stone patio and decks off of the main building. Really a great place to go.
Also, they have a dozen or more little wooden cabins that were built just a couple years ago. We stayed in one and although a bit on the expensive side ($179/night), they were pretty nice. BIG king size comfy bed, kitchenette with a bar, foton, bathroom, little deck - right in the woods. Outdoorsy cabin feel to it.

Oh, and Hidden Lake Winery is about 45 minutes west of downtown St. Louis. Its an easy drive on Hwy 64 and there are cabins on site or hotels about 10 minutes away.
My friend Georgie is the event planner at Chaumette Winery. I highly recommend the location, and her skills! http://www.chaumette.com/
They are a location that hasn't been over done, and many have not explored.
Best of luck!
Thank you for your wonderful review of Chandler Hill! They ought to pay you a commission for the FREE advertising you are doing for them.
I had looked at CHV online and had emailed them for additional information. There was information from them in my email this morning as well.
I really like that CHV is within easy driving range of accommodations in The Valley.
The summer heat was one reason I had passed Hidden Lakes over. I am familiar with HL. I live near Shiloh, and we spent our anniversary there last year. The food was wonderful, and I probably wouldn't hesitate to further investigate HL if it weren't for the heat and humidity of the area in the summer. I too have a friend whose friend's daughter was married there, and she indicated that she heard good things about them as a wedding venue. Thanks again!
We had our wedding reception at Chandlier Hill last year and I do recommend it. The location was great and beautiful. We used a caterer, but I believe they now do most of their catering after they expanded their kitchen. We had the option of having our ceremony there as well, but we decided to have ours at the Old Peace Chapel (at the Daniel Boone Home) down the road. I also highly recommend that place. We had our out of town guests stay off of Hwy K in O'Fallon, about 20-25 minutes away. It was more affordable than the Valley and they offered shuttles. Good Luck!
