Hi ladies, my fiancee and I are in the beginning stages of planning our wedding in Cartagena. We met with La Chica last week and I'm getting very excited to visit in October to pick out our venues.
My only concern is the budget- we are paying for the wedding ourselves and are looking to spend $15,000-20,000- do you think this is realistic and will we still be able to have a beautiful wedding?
I'm getting a little nervous because of all of La Chiche's weddings look like they had big budgets! Help!!

Hi, I am getting married on the 10th of October and your budget sounds realistic. My guest list is about 55 people and La Chiche its my wedding planner; we met with her a year ago and loved everything she showed us. From my experience, I think the most money goes to the church and reception music, the photographer and video, and the food; the rest you can work around.

Hi, La Chiche will respect your budget. Ours was very low, and yet our wedding looked like a million dollars. My advise is go for a budget of $15 because you will end up spending a little bit more. If you say a budget of $22 you might pass your limits.In my opinion $18 is enough. But also you have to consider the number of your guests.

I'm working with La Chiche, too. WP usually charge 15% of the total wedding cost, but from what I've seen they can go as low as 7%. And the total wedding cost for the calculation includes what you have the WP do, so for example, your dress would not be included in that amount. We are having about 65 guests and hope not to go too far past our budget, but it's nice having someone there to help out with all of our questions!

We met la Chiche and looked at some of the venues, the one we liked the most and was told it was the most "economico" was the Sofitel. I noticed you are getting marrried there but wanted to know how are you doing with your budget? We started to add up everything and it seems we are really going over our budget. We still have not received a quote from Sofitel but I am interested to here from you what it includes and what type of food they are including. Please HELP...I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!

Congratulations! Wow, you're starting the planning process early, so you have plenty of time. The Sofitel is not the least expensive, but neither is it the most (in my opinion). It seems like the Sofitel has a lot of items embedded in the basic rental that you would have to pay for elsewhere. For example, the simple white linens and silverware are included in the rental fee at the Sofitel, but if you had it at one of the "casas," you would have to pay extra for that. The food is SPECTACULAR, we had a tasting there and fell in love. Juan Pablo is a character and cool to work with. They will negotiate with you, you just have to be willing to ask ;)
I thought it would be cheap, but it's not that cheap. In reality, you get more bang for your buck, in Cartagena in general. Prices are going up every year, I've noticed, and things aren't as inexpensive as they used to be. If you do go with the Sofitel, make sure you lock them in before the prices go up for 2012. We signed the contract and put the deposit down in December 2010 and they went up 10% in January, but we are paying 2010 prices.
There are simple 3 course (inexpensive) menus that you can choose and they will still be amazing! And the presentation and service is impeccable!

My wedding planner was Maria Angelica Cueter, I first went to la Chiche but she qutoed 10% of the total spend, then I found Maria Angelica who was able to reduce this fee, and she organised not only my wedding day but also events during the week before and she also got great deals with the suppliers. About money it depends on the number of guests, lcoation, etc. But just roughly to give you an idea, I had 180 and spend 25k (including the wedding planner fee)

I'm going to email La Chiche because she seems wonderful according to all of these reviews and I'm also completely new to this entire planning process. Congrats! My fiancé and I went to Colombia to look at venues, cake, music etc.,however we were not very happy with the prices that were quoted nor the wedding planner la chiche. I have left 2 emails since my visit and never recieved a response. We were not very happy with the percentage either, we are currently looking for another wedding planner. Welcome to weddingmapper! :) I just came across your post and I too had the same experience with La Chiche. Her fee was 15% which was way over our budget and I remember sending her 2-3 emails and never got a response. My fiance and I are going with Caribe Cordial (getting married in Feb. 2012) and so far, they have been great. We went to Cartagena last month to meet with Sandra Pinto of Caribe Cordial (she's the main person) and she took the time to explain everything to us and answer all our questions (And this is before we decided to sign the contract). I think that says a lot about them. We also had a chance to see them (She has a team of people who work a wedding) in action as they had a wedding that day we were there, and we were impressed with how smoothly everything seemed. We communicate through Skype all the time which is super convenient, especially being out of state. Best of luck to you!

I think some of you should be careful what you write on this webpage. This is to help brides get information, not to damage vendor’s reputation. I think Cartagena has Wedding planners for all budgets. You can’t say La Chiche is bad because her rates are higher and you can’t afford her. La Chiche goes above and beyond good service. La Chiche and her staff focus on not only large details but the small details that brides sometime forget. Also, it is out of the WP control how much vendors charge.

My WP was la Chiche and for this reason I can’t say anything bad or good about the other wedding planners. I do not understand how you can write all these wrong comments about her if she is not your WP. For the new brides on this site, you should read the brides review to make your decision. I used to email La Chiche 30 times a day and she used to answer every single one of my emails. After the wedding, I still email her and she answers right away. In addition, all the wrong comments about La Chiche are about how expensive she is. That is irrelevant...if you can’t afford her do not hire her and move on. It bothers me read the comments about her in this webpage after I have worked with La Chiche for a full year and had a SUPER great experience. My husband, family, and guests loved La Chiche and her staff. My mother was so please we found her. Without La Chiche we would have never had such a perfect and unforgettable week!

I totally agree with Clara. My WP was La Chiche and I am extremely lucky to have had her to coordinate my wedding last June 2010. It was an amazing wedding thanks to her. More than price, it is important to have somebody to trust, responsible and that can devote to your wedding as it it were a wedding to their own daughter.That is how I felt about La Chiche. Moreover, I was amazed to see how vendors would speak highly positive about doing business with her. Some of my husband relatives still speak about "That amazing wedding lady" when they describe our wedding to other people.
