A Photographers perspective:
In recent years photography has changed drastically. With the introduction of digital photography expectations have increased. With Film most photographers would only shoot at most 100-200 photos. With digital, photographers are averaging 1000-2000 shots per wedding. This has significantly increased the amount of post production work and editing behind the scenes. Artistic editing has replaced artistic capturing. The types of products offered has also had a huge impact on the price of photography. Professionally designed artistic albums have replaced simple traditional albums. The amount of time required to design an album impacts price.
There are photographers that bundle all these things together and require you to choose a package that is often over priced. Others offer choices that allow you to pick the types of services you want to pay for.
Photography is the only thing beside the dress and the rings that produces a product that you can enjoy long after the wedding is over. In the grand scheme of things photography is way underpriced when you consider the amount you spend for Venues, DJ, Band, Flowers, etc. for 1 night.
There are options so the first thing you need to do is determine what you want from your photographer and find one that is willing to work with you to meet your expectations.
