Winter Wedding in Puerto Rico

Hi all!
We're just starting to plan our wedding in puerto rico for dec 2010. I'm planning a trip to PR in a few weeks to check out venues for ceremony/reception. We're having an interfaith wedding so the ceremony will have to be at a religion-neutral location :)

We're planning to check out:
The Ritz-Carlton
El Conquistador
El Convento

It has also been recommended to be to check out the Marriott Condado as well as El Club Nautico

Wondering if anyone might have any additional recommendations?

Thanks in advance!
Carmen

Hi Carmen,

Thank you for choosing PR for your wedding!
All the venues you want to check out are amazing, so it will be a hard choice!
I can speak personally of Hotel El Convento. Here we have an interior courtyard that would be perfect for a ceremony and our beautiful banquet hall, Salon Campeche, can hold a party up to 210 guests.

When you arrive in a few weeks, feel free to check us out! I will send you further information to your email address.

Let me know if there is anything else we could do to assist you!

Sincerely,

Hotel El Convento
San Juan

Hi Carmen! We are having a religion neutral ceremony as well (I'm catholic, my fiance is jewish), so we chose El Convento partly because we could have the ceremony in the courtyard outside. We get married in May, but so far so good. El Convento has been fantastic to work with. Paola the wedding coordinator is amazing. We are all the way in San Francisco, and I have to say that they have made the planning very easy and stress free. Good luck to you!

El Hotel El Convento is a very good option. It has the Spanish Architecture and it soranded by the Old San Juan Charm, it was my first option earlier in my planning process. You can also check El San Juan Hotel in Isla Verde. They can prepare everything in the hote (it also includes Hair and Makeup) and if you would like the ceremony on the beach they can also do that. I chose for my wedding Villa Montana Beach Resort which is 90 minutes away from San Juan. This area is more secluded and the area provide the ambience of Beach Life in Puerto Rico. The cons is that is secluded but they offer Wedding Coordinator and provide most of what you may need for the wedding (including the minister and paper work).

Congratulations! I too am planning my wedding for New Year's Day in Puerto Rico 2011! I fell in love with the Gran Melia Hotel and Spa located in Coco Beach, you should check out the link granmeliapuertorico.com. You can have your ceremony there as well as all other festivities...the 'wedding chapel' they have there is nondemoninational and is an outdoor gazebo of sorts so it could work for your interfaith wedding :O) I am also considering doing my ceremony at El Morro and reception at El Convento so please let me know how your visit goes, I'm looking to do a scout in mid February :O)

Best Wishes!
Brooke

I am quite familiar with El Convento. I love love the interior Patio! It is a great choice for the ceremony to be in El Morro. The first of the year is a very busy day in Old San Juan. Most of Locals go to mingle around. I also saw a wedding in El Paseo La Princesa (right at the front of the fountain). It looked very romantic. I am getting married in 6 weeks so I have most of hte planning in their last stages. Since I am getting married in a secluded area I had some challenges but it match our personalities the area chosen. If El Convento help to be stress free, then go with it.

These three places are awesome: The Ritz-Carlton, El Conquistador, El Convento. Each one has it's own charm and are very different. I think it depends the theme of your wedding, what kind of flavor, feel and ambiance you may want for your wedding.

The Ritz has a 1940's Grand Hotel feel and look. Great food and wonderful staff and service. You can see a wedding at the Ritz here: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2009/03/31/jessica-greg/

El Conquistador has one of the most breathtaking views of any hotel in Puerto Rico. The food is also breathtaking too. They have won many awards. The staff and service is first rated. Here is a wedding at El Conquistador: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2008/11/23/carrie-michael-el-conquistador/

El Convento is one of my favorite places for a wedding. Extremely romantic and it is in the middle of Old San Juan, one of the world's most romantic cities. Many choose to get married at the Old San Juan cathedral, the second oldest in the new world and then celebrate at El Convento. If you want an authentic Old World feel and be transported to colonial times, El Convento is your only choice. The food and staff are awesome. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We've decided to host our rehearsal dinner in the courtyard at El Convento. As for the ceremony itself, I'm looking for an outdoor location for the ceremony that is NOT actually on the beach. Would prefer that it's in a garden, on a deck/terrace, etc. I'd like to have the reception @ the same location but somewhere indoors.

My top choices (I'm indecisive and still haven't been able to make up my mind):
Conrad Hilton - Condado: I love their outdoor location which is in a grassy area overlooking rocks and the ocean. I'm concerned that of their 2 ballrooms; one is too small and the other too large however...

Ritz-Carlton: I'm not crazy about their outdoor ceremony location but love the idea of cocktail hour in the evening by the lit-up pool area. The Ballroom is gorgeous but no windows!

I'm planning another trip down to check out El San Juan, La Concha, and the Intercontinental.

Any recommendations? Any pictures that anyone would be willing to share of weddings at any of these venues? Does anyone have any experience working with the Conrad Hilton or La Concha (as these are relatively newly rehabbed locations)

Thanks in advance!
Carmen

Intercontinental has a nice deck overseeing the ocean. Here is one at The Intercontinental: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2008/01/22/adeena-josh-wedding-album-2/

The San Juan Marriott Stellaris has garden overlooking the Pools. You can see some images of a wedding here. http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2009/04/25/bianca-larry-wedding-at-san-juan-marriott-resort-stellaris-casino/

You can see a wedding at the Ritz here: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2009/08/20/jessica-greg-wedding-album/

The best garden wedding sites are El Conquistador Hotel and Gran Melía Resort.

You can see a wedding at El Conquistador here: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2008/08/19/sara-and-benjamin-wedding-book/

Here is one at the Gran Melía: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/wblog/2008/05/09/kureshaan-oscar-wedding-book/

Do check El Caribe Hilton to. They do have a garden/grassy area, a deck and a grassy area near the beach.

Hope that helps.

El Morro is ran by the US National Park Services. Just call (787) 729-6777 for more information and permit.

El Morro is a beautiful place. It's full of history. If you want to get out of the ordinary traditional spots, you should have in mind El Morro.
El Morro and its surroundings give a unique touch to the wedding ceremony.
If you want, you can visit our blog and see a sample of a wedding ceremony held at El Morro with a reception at El Convento.
El Morro, simply gorgeous!!

You mentioned you are having a non-denomination/interfaith ceremony...I'm in the same boat you are (I am catholic, fiance is jewish)...who is officiating your wedding? are you incorporating any traditional jewish elements to wedding? We're having difficulty finding an officiant who is willing to incorporate both religions!

I got married a month ago. It was a non-denominational ceremony (beachside). I used Pasto Jaime Cole. He is located at the North west coast. I am including here his email if you would like to check. His native language is English. He will not answer right aways but wait for his reply in a couple of days.

Hi Carmen,

You can contact www.ministrodeboda.com I'm sure they can perform a very beautiful ceremony for you.

We are actually having a friend perform the ceremony, and are working with a minister to be a witness and do all of the behind the scenes stuff like paperwork. This way, we get the ceremony that we want.

does anyone know how to get a permit (or even if it's needed) to get married on the beach? The ceremony will be about 15 minutes, a simple arch and some chairs is all we're setting up. It will be in Isla Verde. Is the same info as for El Morro? (My wedding is ALSO on Jan 1st 2011)
