frans place resturant is 1-912-262-9663- itslike 10 min off ssi but i had my dinner there and the service was personal, people had true "southern hospitality" and the food was amazing

My mother-in-law chose Jinrights in Brunswick, not far at all from the Causway. It was a nice place, but the food left something to be desired.

I've heard the Red Barn on SSI is great, but I have not eaten there. We went to Mullet Bay for a family gathering following our reception, not private, but very nice.

You can't go wrong with Bonefish Grill - great prices and great food! Otherwise check out getting a location and using Tasteful Temptations Catering. And as always, check out SSIEventInfo.com

There is a place at the lighthouse that is nice - it is just a venue, so you would need a caterer. We are doing ours at the Casino and bringing in Southern Soul BBQ for the food. We are expecting about 100 people, so we needed a large venue.

Thank you for all of the honest feedback!!! It seems like its such a small island yet there are really endless possibilities... rent a house and get it catered, rent a venue and have it catered, do it at a restaurant, heck i'm sure we could even do it on the beach under some tents if we really wanted too but i think that would be too much work for just the rehearsal dinner... The Ocean Lodge place i mentioned above seems fairly new on St. Simons, but it looks so nice! what do you guys think?

We looked at the Ocean Lodge. They had (might still have) a policy that to rent the venue space you had to rent a certain number of the hotel rooms (if not all of them). The rates were a little more than we wanted to impose on our guests. Also, they did not have enough rooms for all of our guests. If you are interested, just email them.

I can think of a few that we've worked out and enjoyed. Try...
- Neptune Park "Old Casino Building" next to the pier. (great view of the ocean and the pier, with a cover it's weather proof and an opening it has a nice breeze.) 912-279-2836.

Also, Ocean Lodge is excellent. The nicest people and the most elegant atmosphere. Also the view is probably the best view on St. Simons Island...well, except maybe for the Lighthouse. They are not too Child friendly though so make sure you as about kids.

I highly recommend the Heritage Center by the Lighthouse. It's a brand new beautiful building on the water. We also paid a little extra to have the lighthouse open for our guests (to climb to the top). We had our rehearsal dinner there and it was about 90 people. We used Straton Hall to cater it -- their food and service is INCREDIBLE!

We had our wedding at Villa de Suenos -- my dream wedding -- so I can highly recommend this as well! Straton Hall catered this too. Best wedding food we've ever had (even though we were too busy to eat much!).

oh that's such a good idea... I'm looking up the heritage center right now. Do you have a photo of your event from the Heritage Center? I'd love to see what it looks like when its prepared for an event.
