Terra,
I had the same problem & add to it relatives that don't do.. Anyway, we really like Spanish River Park which is just south of Glades. They have many gazebos with the tables etc. There is an underground walkway to the beach so you get the best of both worlds. Downside of this is that you would have to either do the BBQ yourself or have it catered. We googled Delray Beach Restaurants and based on looks and price did some taste and atmosphere testing. I'm sure that there must be some funky, fun places with lively music but we couldn't find them. You may want to just ask around as the locals know the hangouts. Good luck.
Hi Terra,
I live in Delray, and got married here 6 months ago. I can think of some places.....Old Calypso is my favorite place to eat. Its on the intracoastal 1/4 mile down from Bostons. It is beautiful, and they do a great job with events. Also, Prime Catch in Boynton is great. Its also on the intracoastal, but its about 3-4 miles from Atlantic Ave(which is where the Sunday House is). Both of those are beachy and beautiful. If your looking for more casual try The Banana Boat or Two Georges. They are both on the water and have reggae type bands they are also both in Boynton Beach. Also, the Seagate beach club is brand new. It is a private club, however i know they will allow you to book a function there right now without being a member. Its directly on the beach, but it might be pricey. And they are also opening a hotel on Atlantic that is gorgeous! I don't know when your getting married but it will open Nov of 09 (I know this because my husband is the chef there) Hope that any of this helps you! Best wishes on your big day!
Hi Terra,
My family lives in Delray Beach, and we were looking for the same thing you were for the rehearsal night. We had a tough time finding exactly what we wanted (although Mom4Shiloh's suggestion of Spanish River is a good one -- that would be a really nice location if you want a casual picnic). But I ended up loving where we chose -- the Dune Deck Cafe in Lantana. It's pretty much a beach shack. We rented the whole thing out (their buffet is great and reasonably priced) and we hired a steel drum band. We hired vans/buses to take people to and from Delray Beach (Lantana is about 20 mins north). We almost went with Old Calypso, which lets you rent out the outside patio on the intercoastal. Their food is good, the view is great, and it's right on Atlantic. But we spotted some rats running around outside and just couldn't do it -- truthfully, however, anything on the intercoastal or even on the beach at night runs the risk of rats, so that was probably just us being silly. Good luck, and best wishes!
I forgot to mention that Deerfield Beach is another great location. It's a casual little beach town. My husband had his groomsmen lunch on the beachfront patio at Oceans 234. Then they all ambled onto the beach to play some beach volleyball and bocce ball. I'm not sure if Oceans 234 or JB's on the Beach rent out their patios, but if they do, those could be good choices.
Hi Terra
Congrats! The Sundy House is beautiful! I was just there for dinner on Friday and it was amazing. There is a sunset cruise that goes out on the intracoastal on Altantic called the Lady Atlantic. I'm doing my rehearsal dinner on there. It will be a lot of fun for out of town guests. THey are extremely reasonable price wise as well.
