I took it to a small family owned dry cleaners near my house in Ile-Bizard. It's the dry cleaners next to IGA on Chevremont, the only one there. I paid $150 with the box, which compared to the $250 plus tax they were offering at Creations Vezina (where I bought my dress) is an awesome deal!
thanks jondywedding ;-))
I'll look into it!
I used Franc Nettoyeur on Jean Talon Est street. He is the person who Sposabella uses to clean their dresses. He is also better priced than Miss Brown. The number is 514-256-0331.
As you are all most certainly aware. Dry cleaning is not only harmful for the environment, but also for your cherished wedding gown as the delicate beading might get damaged during the drying cycle (170F), and not to mention that your gown may change from a white white to a tinge of grey. This is caused by the 3% of chemical refered to as Perc which remains on your gown as well as in the atmosphere.
The great news is that there is a cleaner located in N.D.G called Nettoyeur Ecologique Royal, 5866 Sherbrooke Street West
(514) 482-3622 & 5956 Monkland Avenue (514) 488-8044 whom are the 1st cleaners in the entire Province of Quebec that clean garments without the use of any chemicals. The system they use is called Wet Cleaning and was developed in Germany in 1991. This technology arrived in North America in 1999. Due to the cost involved, many small family run cleaner's cannot afford to convert.
Their state of the art Miele washer has even a separate program especially made for wedding dresses. Give them a call as their prices are very competitive. If repairs are required after the joyous event, their seamstresses both have a background in the bridal salon field.
I took my dress to Miss Brown after my wedding and was quite impressed. They got all the black stains out of the trim and I had even spilled champagne down the front. They boxed it and the bust looks even better than my own : )
They've been in business for generations and certainly know their stuff. Highly qualified.
AND! They said that they use a system called Aqua Clean on most dresses and it's far better on the environment than what is normally used in Dry Cleaning. It all depends on the fabric of the dress.
You are indeed right. Miss Brown has an excellent reputation in the cleaning of wedding dresses. However, due to their reputation they are known for overcharging the client based on their name. I would be curious to know what they charged you for cleaning your dress and the keepsake chest.
