So I am not alone on this one... It is frustrating to plan from afar but it is what I want so I must go along with it. In many circumstances I have attempted to call people and places and have either never gotten a response or are rude to me. The thing that bothers me is that I want their service and it is income that is coming in. So I do not understand why many places are like that. My advice is if one place is ignoring you then move to the next. Just think that if they are like this now how will it be the closer you get to the wedding. Thats what I am doing. GOOD LUCK!!

I can barely get anyone to reply to me. I think it's island time- not a language barrier. It's frustrating. I'm learning to let things go!
I agree with stephanie with the island time theory :) I just got married there 2 weeks ago, my suggestion A WEDDING PLANNER (nicole miranda from Dynamikos is THE BEST). David mentioned EOS. Victor from Eos was our decorator florist. We changed what we wanted on multiple occasions and he was able to get our idea and concept. WE LOVED EVERYTHING about the decoration. In regards to cakes we used Azuarte (Juan Carlos- the cake looked AMAZING and tasted delicious, a lot of people commented on it. Hope you find this helpful. Congrats!!!
I very much feel your pain Jillybean and agree with many above that folks in PR seem to be on Island time. It was extremely frustrating! After going back and forth with one florist for nearly three months I ended up hiring a new company 2 weeks before my wedding. I couldn't risk the chance of them not coming through for me. In the end I worked with Mossaico and was extremely pleased with their work. [email protected] Nahyer is who I communicated with mostly. When I received the original contract their translator was out of the office so it was in Spanish. If you use google translate it makes converting items to English a piece of cake. http://translate.google.com/# Good luck!
I do take issue about "the island time" generalization. I am a vendor in Puerto Rico and because there are some unprofessional vendors here does not mean that we are all the same. You can find that kind of unprofessional vendors anywhere, including the USA. The problem you may have is called dealing long distance with vendors. That is complicated by the fact that some may not speak English well. That would have been resolved quite easily if you had hired a Wedding planner.
So, I take issue of been labeled as "island time" just because we are vendors in Puerto Rico.
I apologize, David as I personally don't want to offend anyone here. I'm simply trying to share my experience and while I agree with you that not everyone is unprofessional, I just found the responsiveness to be an issue with nearly all of my vendors. I communicated primarily through email versus telephone which should have worked out the kinks in terms of time zones and calling long distance. While wedding planners are a definite benefit to assist in moving the planning process along, I didn't feel that I should have to pay someone to do that for me simply because the vendors I was working with weren't responsive. If those planning a wedding in PR would like the assistance of a coordinator and want the extra expense to help manage the stress of the process then that's great, but I don't see it as being the only answer to working with unresponsive vendors. Again, I didn't mean to offend you (as I'm sure others before me didn't mean to as well.)
Don't worry, I know that it wasn't meant as an insult but as a sign of justifiable frustration. I am not a wedding coordinator but in my experience a good wedding coordinator is worth her/his weight in Gold. They do more than keep track of vendors and go shopping for you but they also make things happens. They will know or can find out which vendors are responsible and which ones are not. And if you encounter situations that need to be solved they are go person, specially in a place you are not familiar with. Believe me, you do not want to spend your wedding week solving problems. That can become an incredible burden specially because you will have to make last minute decisions in a strange place not knowing who to trust. Just because a business has a listing in the yellow pages or a website means they are a good, professional, responsible vendor.
Wish you luck and if we can help, please let us know. Does not matter if you are a client of ours or not, we are here to help.
Please let me know what vendors you come up with in regards to Cake & Flowers. I am planning a wedding for October 16,2010 @ the Gran Melia. Have you located a Band/or DJ yet and someone to do your video? You can email me If you choose to.
For Video: Blink and Sin (Love them)
For Band and music in general: It's Entertainment has pretty much EVERYTHING you may need. I had a half spanish/english wedding and they did a great job :)
Thanks Kathy & Mike. Congrats :-) Can you please send the contact name and number or email or website. Thanks I live in Atlanta, GA
Thank you sooo much to everyone who has helped me with my struggle. Kathy and Mike- do you by chance have the phone number of the cake vendor you used? I trust you completely for some reason...weird! And I would just like to say also that my mother and I have a vision that we are having so much fun seeing come to life. We live 3000 miles away from eachother so it really is bringing us closer together and thats the main reason I chose not to use a wedding coordinator. Thanks to all who suggested one though. And I have booked about 5 vendors so far and LOVE them. They are all awesome and the vedors I am talking about who have not responded to me are some of the most well known. Thanks again everyone and please feel free to continue to leave your comments!!!

Hi I am also a bride planning a wedding in PR. I just wanted everyone to know do not open the websites David posted they are infected with Trojen viruses. I learned this out the hard way!
Apparently the versaille florists website was taken over by some kind of scheme. Sorry about that, but that was the website address in their cards.
Please, next time clarify which website you are talking about, because you used the word in plural and my website address was at the bottom and I guarantee that my website does not have any malware.
I appoligize, next time(which I hope never happens again)I will clarify which website was infected. I was only trying to look out for my fellow brides, because that virus caused some damage to my data. Sorry
I understand and it was good that you did warned everyone. I did check my own site to make sure too. One never can be too careful.
