that really depends on everything from how many guests... 50? 100? 200? what type of venue, the type of flowers and type of cake. it's hard to tell give you a budget but if i have to guess 20K to 30K. i had a 200 people chinese wedding banquet, chose not to decorate with flowers but instead bought origami paper and made origami flowers for each guest, had a buttercream frosting cake rather than fondant and as the wedding favor i made a cookbook from recipes guests had gave me thoughout the months of planning and each household had a cookbook. my wedding dress? i went to the stores and tried on the dresses and once i liked the style i bought it online that did not charge taxes, had free shipping and was way cheaper than the stores but only needed some adjustment. the men had their tux rented. You have plenty of time to think about what style you want. i didn't have a budget but tried to get the best deal for what we want.. but at the end we spent close to $40K for a 200 guests with an open bar, dj/mc, dance lessons and custom made chinese dresses. at the end all the aggravation and planning was worth it because our friends had a great time. so start getting your estimates and save $$.
Hi and congratulations. Getting married in NYC gives you so many options. Based on so many different types of venues, guest list, etc.... budget can range pretty significantly. We are having approximately 150 people and chosing the middle ground on most options. We are well over $100K at this point with dance lessons, dress, flowers, cake, venue, etc etc. Its a ton of money when you think about it.... my advice - don't think about the total number. Try to pay as you go for as much as you can and don't put yourself into debt (at least as best as you can). The day will be beautifl no matter how much you spend.
We tried really hard to be frugal and ended up spending $69,000 for 275 people. So expensive. One thing we did to save $ was to have a band for the first hour of the wedding, and then switched to a DJ. Also, for our centerpieces, each table had an orchid ($75 each). Good luck!
Try to remeber what's important...sharing this day with the people you love. They won't rmemebr the flowers or the lighting. As long as you can afford an open bar and a decent band/dj then your guests will have a great time. I also believe it is better to spend on the quality of food than the quantity. You can budget as much as you can afford on a wedding just make sure you have enough left over for the honeymoon!
I totally agree with gmontefeltri. Try to save where you can and really think about what is important to you. My fiance and I are planning a wedding for 8/8/10. We are having the reception and ceremony at the same place because they included so many things for free that we would have been crazy to go anywhere else. Instead of flowers (that no one will care about anyway) we are using huge seashells that we are going to decorate ourselves. We got engaged in Jamaica and love to travel to any island that will have us. lol. We are notpaying for fany chair covers. Most of our guests will be dancing and the ones who won't can sit in a comfortable padded chair and eat the delicious food we are paying for. Another bit of advice, ask each place involved with your wedding what types of specials and discounts they offer. You may be surpised. So far, we are not paying for children under 10 at the reception, there is a huge discount for guests under 21 since they cannot drink alcoholic beverages. The reception place offers discounts in the summer and on Sunday, so we scored double savings there. I am getting my bridal party's dresses from the same place as my wedding gown, so chaching on the savings there. We're not spending a fortune on the cake because the reception food is amazing and it's buffet style, so peple will be stuffed. Just ask around all the time and try to save where you can. :) hapy planning!
