Our wedding was so much fun! Getting married in Waunakee was super convenient for us, because we live in town. But the main reason we picked it is because it allowed us to have all the wedding festivities in basically the same place. It made it easier for our guests and for us.
Wedding mapper was a nice addition to the wedding planning. I used it mostly for the free wedding website, which I used to communicate details about the wedding. But I found that some of the other features were really helpful. We used the map feature to print out a map and list of local attractions for all the guests staying at the hotel. And I found the reviews on this site very helpful.
Good luck with planning your wedding!
We have had so many people tell us that the food at our wedding was the best wedding food they've ever had. The food was delicious - the servers were awesome - and the setting was beautiful. We couldn't have asked for anything better. You can certainly find a cheaper option in the Madison area, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better value.
We hired Deb as a day of coordinator. Our reception site, the Waunakee Village Center, doesn't have an onsite coordinator that handles things like telling the caterer where to set up, taking the trash/recycling out during the reception, and taking down all the decorations after the reception. So we hired Deb to take care of all those details. It was probably the best money we spent for the wedding! I have no idea what we would have done without her. She took care of absolutely everything we asked her to do and took a lot of worry away from us so that we could concentrate on enjoying the day. Deb is just starting out in the wedding planning business, so there were some things we could tell she needed a little experience on - but all in all, Deb was fantastic!
We wanted a big dance party at our reception and that's exactly what we got. The DJ read the crowd perfectly and kept the dance floor packed all night. Planning with Celebrations was easy - they are willing to handle everything via email, which is critical for me, and their planning tool is really easy to use. They are a bit pricey compared to other DJs in town, but totally worth it in my opinion.
We hired Van Go Taxi to run a shuttle between the wedding and the hotel, both before the ceremony, and at the end of the reception. It worked very well, and our guests were very appreciative of the fact that they didn't have to drive. We had no issues with the service we got. The only reason I rated them 4 stars instead of 5 is that they used a mini van instead of a larger vehicle, which meant they had to make more trips. The other thing to note is that you're not going to get someone in a suit or a tux with Van Go Taxi. It wasn't important to us that the person be well dressed, but if it's important to you, I'd recommend checking out Badger Bus or someone else.
This was a gorgeous setting for the wedding ceremony. We had the ceremony in the back of the park, in a grove of trees, with a rock wall as a backdrop. Six Mile Creek runs through the park and adds another element of beauty. We got so many compliments on how beautiful the ceremony was!
We loved the Waunakee Village Center for our wedding. It was really important to us to have all the wedding events in one place, to have the ceremony outdoors, and to do all this for a reasonable price. The Village Center gave us everything we needed there. They were incredibly helpful with all the questions we had, and everything went off on the day of without a hitch. One of the biggest benefits we found to using the Village Center is that they don't force a particular caterer on you, and they allow you to stock your own bar. Both of these options allowed us to save a lot of money.
We got terrible service from the Country Inn in Waunakee. It's very difficult to block rooms there, because you can only book them by talking to the manager, who is very very difficult to get a hold of. When I finally got a hold of her, I gave her my credit card number to hold 20 rooms. One of our guests called the next day to book a room, and found that the block had not been created, which meant that the manager was just holding onto my credit card number and doing who knows what with it.
In addition, everytime either I or one of my guests called, the staff was incredibly rude. Given that we were basically booking their entire hotel for a weekend, you would have thought they could have been a little nicer. And they gave us (the bride and groom!) a hard time about checking in early on the day of the wedding!
I will say, though, that the hotel rooms were very clean and we had no issues when we stayed there the night of the wedding.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to any bride looking for a stress free part of wedding planning - but the problem is that it's your only option in Waunakee. So if you want something local, you're stuck. Sorry!
