We had a small wedding (40-50 people) split evening between US and Colombian guests. We started arranging the wedding in October and the wedding took place in April. We used Caribe Cordial as our wedding planners and they were helpful in negotiating with vendors (food, music, flowers, and the venue). The helped us decide on Casa Pombo which was excellent location for a wedding of our size. Casa Pombo was a colonial mansion with a great ambiance and really shined at night with some great lighting. The wedding ceremony took place at Iglesia Santo Domingo and our guests walked to Casa Pombo while we took a carriage and took photographs around the old city. We loved the entertainment at the reception where we had a DJ, live band, and "hora loca". Our guests, both American and Colombian, loved the hora loca where traditionally dressed colombian dancers and musicians recreated a carnival atmosphere at the recption. They handed out masks, beads, and danced with the guests (even the ones that never danced before). It was a great and memorable part of the reception for everyone.
We would highly recommend Caribe Cordial as a wedding planning company for couples planning their wedding abroad in Cartagena. We live in the US but Diana was Colombian and wanted a wedding in Cartagena. Originally, we tried to plan it from abroad but we had a tight timeframe and needed help. Once we started working with Caribe Cordial, we wish we had worked with them from the beginning. They were able to get better prices on services, hotels, etc. than we were finding and took care of all the details such that we didn't even make a trip to Cartagena prior to the wedding. We worked specifically with Liliana and Juan Camilo. Liliana speaks english so communication was not too much of an issue. On our wedding weekend, they took care of transportation to get our guests to the hotel, made sure we had our paperwork ready, and went over the final details. They guided us through the Catholic wedding ceremony and arranged a classy party at Casa Pombo. They spent a lot of time with us and made sure that things were to our liking. Liliana and Juan Camilo had great taste and had the details in place that made our event a night to remember. We came to trust them and their judgement. The lights, flowers, band, "hora loca", and food was memorable and of high quality. A couple of issues arose through the weekend (as they always do) and Juan Camilo and Liliana came up with quick solutions and were highly professional. It is very difficult to plan a "destination" wedding but Liliana and Juan Camilo made the experience easy, enjoyable and of high quality.
This church is one of the most beautiful in Cartagena. It has a very beautiful altar and wonderful blue ceilings. The priest and his staff were helpful and easy to work with. We gave them our paperwork in english and there were no issues. The only drawback of the church is that there is no air conditioning. Our ceremony was at 7pm and the men were wearing tuxedos and were still sweating. There were several fans in the church which helped.
This is an amazing venue. We had a small room on the second floor for 40-50 guests with windows that overlooked the square below. The evening started with cocktails for an hour in the garden area on the first floor and then proceeded upstairs to the main room. We were particularly impressed with the lighting in the room which created a sophicated ambiance. The room had airconditioning which made the whole evening comfortable for all our guests. The ceilings are vaulted and you have an old colonial feel in the room. There were two side rooms with modern furnature where the guests could escape the music from the band to get a drink or talk. The wedding planners did a great job arranging the details to make Casa Pombo shine.
Overall, we like the food, service, pool, and rooms at the hotel when we arrived. It was safe, close to shopping food on the local major avenue, and taxis were always available. There are ocean view rooms which had great views and they had a strech of beach across the street that guests could use. Our only issue with the hotel was that they were difficult to work with to setup the room block. They were not timely in responding to our inqueries and didn't give us great prices or flexibility in our booking. We ended up advising to book with an online website that offered better prices. Caribe Cordial told us later that they could have gotten us better rates if they had negotiated the room block.
