When planning a destination wedding, you need someone who knows the local vendors and all the tips and tricks that you have no hope of knowing as a foreigner and as someone who does not work in the event planning area. Itala had all the connections we needed in Cartagena and gave us advice on how to deal with vendors and a few complex challenges we ran into along the way. She was also full of ideas and ready to accommodate our ideas as well. There was nothing that was off the table when it came to what we could do for our wedding and she immediately knew who to contact and how to proceed to vet our ideas if needed. She and her team were very instrumental the day of the wedding in making sure everything went according to plan and even our guests let us know how attentive and cordial her team were. She was also very patient and helped us through some stressful situations before, during, and after the wedding. Itala was exactly who we needed to pull off our wedding and it wouldn't have been as amazing as it was without her help.
Adriana Santos, another well known vendor in Cartagena, helped us with our catering needs. The food was great and we had several opportunities to do tastings and provide feedback that she incorporated into the food. She was very open to trying new things and used our chimichurri recipe to add a personal touch to the reception menu. We also got a lot of additional services from her including tables and chairs, the silverware and linens, bartenders, and the supplies for the cocktail hour drinks. A lot of what she provided was all included in the price and it was refreshing to not have to worry about multiple vendors for some of these items. Overall, our guests loved the food and this was one of our key must haves in our wedding.
We rented the whole house for the night before the wedding, the day of the wedding, and an apartment for us after the wedding. It was a lot of fun having most of the wedding party and our families under one roof and the house is simply amazing. The staff is extremely helpful and were very nice to us throughout. The guests were simply wowed by the setting and it set the tone for the rest of the festivities.
This was our backup venue due to some difficulties with our original venue. We chose it sight unseen and it turned out to be an even better venue than the original. The area gets a steady breeze that blows through it, which helps with the humid weather. It is in a very public area, but because your are on the Wall, you forget there are people below you. A lot of the sites along the Wall have challenges with bathroom facilities, but this one had large updated bathrooms very well maintained. Even though they are shared with the public, we had absolutely no issues with them.
The museum was the site of our Cocktail Hour. It was perfectly situated to allow us to have a parade with our guests from the Ceremony to the Cocktail Hour and from there to the Reception. The museum was a great place for the Cocktail Hour since the art pieces elicit conversation and it was just the right size for all of them to get together and for us to talk to them for a bit before the reception. We were also able to have drinks and appetizers for them at the museum to hold them over until dinner was served. One area of improvement is to try to air condition the whole space; only part of it was air conditioned.
