Well we did it! Got married on the warmest day of December - 69 degrees on New Year's Eve ~ did I mention the multiple tornados that touched down in the area?
Needless to say, with all of the craziness related to the weather, most of our vendors came through with flying colors.
It was a DIY wedding with me and my girls decorating and coordinating everything from the New Year's martini glass centerpieces to the Hawaiian Leis flown in lieu of bouquets. We worked like crazy to pull everything together ~ unfortunately our limo driver was having a bad night and failed to follow his directions which snowballed into a lot of problems. We recovered and enjoyed a VERY short reception because of it ... but all with smiles on our faces.
Considering we did everything ourselves and didn't have a wedding coordinator, everything worked out just fine ... Only advice I would give to those hiring vendors ... GET IT IN WRITING ... what you expect from their verbal promises or pictures may not be what you actually get. If you can roll with the punches, it may not be a big deal, but if you want your vendors to pay attention to the details that you have given them over the course of your planning, then get it in writing.
Also, remember if you don't get it ... no one will notice. Deal with it later on, rather than try to rectify during your celebration. Vendors that provide a service grow their businesses from catering to their customers and word of mouth. If you're picky - assign someone to make sure your requests are adhered to and just ENJOY your day!
Our wedding and reception was beautiful, fun with lots of silly snafus along the way - attitude is everything. We were so happy to be married and with all of our friends and family, that the dropped balls were kicked to the side of the dancefloor :) Happy Wedding and Happy New Year!
Julianna is delightful to work with; we had a slight issue with the staff assigned to our evening who didn't seem to happy about working on New Year's Eve, but the venue and everyone else we dealt with were lovely!
Olivia went above and beyond to adjust to the changing climate with torrential downpour and tornado warnings ... everyone complimented us on the food and her staff.
Driver was terrible delaying wedding by 45 minutes - bride and groom were left at church to arrive at reception by Deacon 1.5 hrs after scheduled start - failed to pick up bridal party post reception - left groom in rain - it was a mess - HOWEVER ... management contacted us immediately following the wedding to apologize and offer refund. I don't think this is the type of service they normally offer based on their management's responsiveness. I'd give them another try because of their follow up.
Incredible photography ~ Jason made it from the church to the reception area without a moment to spare by braving the elements, soaking wet .. snapping pics with a smile on his face even when the DJ tapped him on the shoulder asking him to move while he was trying to get a shot of us cutting the cake - true class act with beautiful results!
AMAZING!!! All I can say is that if you need a musician - CHARVEY is your man! Beautiful voice, amazing smile ..... big crowd pleaser! He improvised and played much longer than he had to because of the weather and limo disaster ~ He learned a song for our ceremony and worked with us on the christian music selections ... Beautiful and professional!! Winner all the way!
Incredible Heather .... best kept cake secret in Memphis! She can do it all!! Even made sure to box up our grooms cake and topper in the confusion of the evening. DELICIOUS ... professional and wonderful person!
Emily was INCREDIBLE ... she came to the house and took care of hair/makeup for all the girls ~ everyone was just tickled with their new supermodel looks! Thanks Em - you are the best!
Perfect location for our out of towners and didn't want to drive on new year's evers :) They offered a competitive rate - AND accomodated the impromptu Saturday New Year's Day brunch of 40 people at one table - THANK YOU!!
