We couldn't have asked for a better wedding weekend! Getting married in Canmore can be expensive but we were able to look into all our options in order to stay within a tight budget.
The wedding party stayed for 2 nights at the Alpine Club of Canada for a very reasonable price; we had a 6-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 2 kitchen cabin all to ourselves (there was about 10 of us) and we brought in all our own food. We had a casual rehearsal dinner with our families and close friends also at the cabin. Our mobile hairstylist drove out from Calgary and arrived at 7:30am so we were able to just roll out of bed and get our hair done without leaving the cabin!
Quarry Lake Park was the perfect spot to get married - a flat meadow surrounded by mountains provided the most beautiful setting. We kept flowers to an absolute minimum due to the majestic scenery! Reserving the park cost a mere $190 for 3 hours.
Our photographer also came out from Calgary and started capturing our day at 9am at the cabin and stayed with us until 10pm at the reception.
The reception was held at the Canmore Miners' Union Hall which was the perfect size and provided the ambience we were looking for; white exterior, original wood parquet flooring, vintage wall sconces, dim lighting, newly renovated catering kitchen and bar, round and rectangular tables, cushioned chairs. It also provided us with the additional option of a sound system so we could play our own music from an iPod during cocktails, and dinner, as well as for the dancing!
Everyone loved the food! To keep costs down, we chose a buffet style of salads, gourmet flatbread pizzas and lasagne, with pitas and dips at each table; the food and catering was provided by the Rocky Mountain Flatbread company; they worked within our budget and let us pick everything we wanted for the menu.
It can often be difficult to speak with everyone individually at your wedding so we chose to personally serve our guests brownies and ice cream (with self-serve toppings!) for dessert; again we saved a bit of money by baking our own brownies and buying tubs of vanilla ice cream.
We also had the freedom of providing our own bartenders (which were friends of ours) who did an awesome job with the toonie bar!
It can cost a small fortune to get married in Canmore but if you do the research and explore all the options this beautiful town has to offer it can be accomplished within any size budget!
