We got married in Sparta because it was my hometown and we wanted to get married at the church I grew up in. But because Sparta is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, that clearly limited our options a bit. Nonetheless, everything went well and everyone had a great time --once people from Manhattan figured out how to carpool with one another and deal with the lack of public transportation.
They were really great about listening to what we wanted and what we DIDN'T want played during the evening and kept people dancing the entire night.
I grew up in this church and think it is beautiful and simple. They were easy to work with and helped us run a flawless ceremony.
Everyone loved the food at our event and the service was great. One big thing we didn't like were the fact that we'd asked for pitchers of sangria on all the tables when we booked them and were told it was fine and then, just before our wedding it suddenly wasn't okay. Additionally, we ordered custom confetti with pictures of friends and family for the tables and they didn't use even 1/3 of what we gave them because they clearly didn't want to have to clean it up. Understated is one thing, but I was pretty pissed off that so much went unused and that the amount used on our tables looked pretty sparse. Also, they contract with Cafe Pierrot for their wedding cakes and we had a less than pleasant experience finding a wedding cake there. The samples they gave us were way too sweet and no-one liked them and we were pretty irritated to have to pay $30 for a sample kit to actually taste the cakes they make in order to make our selection -especially since they already knew they had our business for our cake. We thought that was pretty cheap and tacky -given what you end up paying for a reception at Perona Farms.
The hotel was good, but they changed ownership and re-branded before our wedding and communication with them was a bit difficult at times. Fortunately everything worked out in the end, but the block of rooms was a bit of a nightmare as we never seemed to get an accurate count of how many people had booked rooms under our block.
