The wedding went wonderfully and was beautiful, but I think more so due to extensive planning than the efforts of all of the vendors. If I were to do it again, I would consider having the reception at the golf course in Genoa and have people stay at the white house.
Did a nice job DJ'ing the wedding. Tried to get the crowd involved, but it wasn't much of a dancing crowd (small wedding, lots of older family). He was easy to contact and fee was reasonable. Only complaint was that I wish he hadn't gone to the bride at the end of his session to see if we wanted to extend the time- it was an issue that made me stop my enjoyment of the party and have to resolve, he should have talked to the groom or father of the bride.
Wonderful town office to work with, the only hang up was the need for an insurance addendum for the rental. My insurance company wanted to charge me more than the cost of renting the church for it (Allstate), but State Farm charged only $50 for the additional insurance.
The wedding was beautiful and the food was great, but overall it was a terrible experience. The accomodations there are managed by a separate company and had to be delt with separately from the banquet hall (gazebo). They frequently gave my guests and myself conflicting information about booking a room and the person on-site for bookings has odd hours and guests could not always get through to her. Plus, the bathroom wasn't very clean and the bed was very uncomfortable in our suite.
The coordination with the banquet manager was awful. During the course of planning my wedding two people were "no longer working there anymore" (seemed to have been fired) and I wasn't informed of the change to the new person. Plus, the next person didn't get the notes from the previous person and they were constantly changing their answers to prices and fees. I beleive they made it through because I was organized enough to have everything listed out in detail for them. But even with that, they gave the bride and groom the wrong dishes on the night of the wedding. On top of that they charged an extra fee for a rehearsal which was done in an uncleaned, unheated room and consisted of 10 people discussing standing positions. It only took an hour because we had to sign paperwork for the rental at that time too. They did not inform us that we would be charged for this, but then later told us it was in the fine print of the contract. At the actual wedding, the waitstaff was fun but put out a tip jar (when they were already getting a 20% gratuity) and the final bill for the number of drinks served was questionable given the number of people not drinking at this small wedding. In addition, it did appear (from guest comments) that the waitstaff may have been drinking (which may had added to their fun spirit).
In any case, I would not reccomend this venue to anyone despite the lovely grounds and good food. I did not get the feeling that they operate a well run, client friendly business.
