Our wedding took place in downtown Madison in late February 2011. Most of our guests were from the area or had attended UW, so many were familiar with getting around. For other guests, the convenience of staying at the Concourse Hotel and attending our wedding at Memorial Union was very much appreciated.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Graze on the Capitol Square and then brunch at the Concourse Hotel.
I would recommend having a downtown wedding because your guests can walk right out the hotel door and be occupied for hours!
We chose Tripp Commons in Memorial Union for our ceremony and reception because the space conjures so many wonderful memories for us. I would recommend this space for anyone who went to UW-so many guests felt such great nostalgia...it was great! The catering staff is professional and has a good sense of what you should order because they host so many events. This was an important feature for me when I was thinking about wedding venues in downtown Madison. We got married here in February and we were able to choose our wedding date and location without any problem. It is more competitive in the summer months because there is a lottery system. I have attended a wedding in Tripp Commons in August and it was a fantastic event too.
Our room block was here because of it's size, location, and reputation. Since we filled our room block, we were given a complimentary upgrade to the Governor's Club. All of our guests enjoyed their stay. We never knew there was a pool, whirlpool, and sauna! The proximity to downtown entertainment is excellent.
