Irene is a small town gal making feel good food at a low and reasonable price. Everything shows up ready to serve and at the right temprature, so don't worry if she isn't there very early. Sure the food isn't plated for a photo op moment, but it's the best food around and everyone was begging her for her Sweet & Sour green bean recipe. Irene also made some pies for our wedding, which were delish. Irene is usually working with only the assistance of her Husband or Sister, so picking up plates is not in her contract. I still have people contacting me about her food and its 6 months later. Not only does the food leave an impression but Irene is the sweetest!
I knew the Funk Daddies had done a wedding or two in the past, but these guys knocked it out of the park. Craig and Billy D. also played some during wedding music for us. I didn't give them any direction on what songs to play, I just asked them to pick something nice and they picked perfect songs! Everyone loved jamming out to them at the reception, they really know how to shake up the crowd and get them dancin'! I very highly recommend!
AHHH-mazing. What can I say? Dick Schwab builds these amazing buildings out in the country that are perfect for an Iowa wedding. Although this was the last year for events at the Celebration barn for a while, they are having events now at their new locations and I hear it's just as lovely. I wish I could come up with more events to have there! Dick is very accommodating and such a pleasure to chat with. Such a hard worker who loves to give back to the community. In fact most of his earnings either go into the barn's rentals or back to the community. I highly recommend!
Not the best experience. But where else are you going to stay downtown Iowa City so you and your wedding party can safely walk to the bars to celebrate and walk back to the hotel after stopping for Marco's grilled cheese? Overall my correspondence with them was flaky. I asked for pricing on the Vetro and Sheraton w/my first choice being the Vetro and was written up a contract for the Sheraton w/o my questions being answered. Any questions I asked from there on out got a copy/paste reply. I asked to book 10 rooms one night, 5 the next, not including my own room on top of that. My room ended up being included in the block, and they wouldn't budge at all to accomodate the two extra rooms I needed a month in advance. We had gift bags for our guests (all 10 of them) and only a few received the bags. They recently renovated their rooms which are nice. Beds are super comfy. All in all it was comfortable when we got there to stay, but the people I had to work with before hand were straight up flaky.
