We love Charlottesville, and after two years of continuing our education here through the University of Virginia, we've decided to stay and become full-time C-ville residents. Our wedding in Charlottesville in June was perfect. Exactly as I had imagined with temperatures in the low 70s, sunny, but with a nice breeze. A wedding in the Virginia countryside was a dream come true. Plus, Charlottesville was a nice destination for our guests, many of which visited the vineyards, toured Monticello, and played golf during the weekend.
The Clifton Inn is truly outstanding in service and ambiance. It is unlike any other wedding venue you will find. Your guests will feel as though they are spending the weekend at a friend's country estate. You must visit the location to understand its perfect combination of charm and sophistication, luxury and comfort. It is also impossible to articulate the impeccable service. But the best part is that family & close friends can stay in the 18 rooms on the property all weekend. We had our rehearsal dinner by their charming infinite pool, and a croquet Sunday brunch on the front lawn. Every detail was attended to. The Clifton Inn and its staff made our wedding an unforgettable event for us and our guests.
Although it is a nice, new hotel, I was not impressed. It may have been because it was a new hotel, but they seemeed rather disorganized. First, it took us multiple tries to get the group sales people on the phone. Often they did not return calls. Also, they changed our online booking code after the Save the Dates were sent. Additionally, they rarely could provide a comprehensive reservation list. Still, the location is good and the hotel is nice for guests.
This is an easy and affordable option for guests. Part of the Darden School, the Sponsors Residence Center is typically used for executive eduation, but can be booked by anyone (I think) at an affordable rate.
Grace Episcopal Church is a gorgeous, historic church with ties to Thomas Jefferson. It is a small stone church framed by green rolling hills, trees, horses...absolutely charming. The two lane road to the church is also a gorgeous drive through the countryside. We chose this church not only because of its historic presence, ideal location in the country, and intimate feel, but also because of its congregation, which is warm and welcoming.
