Our wedding was great! We managed to have an evening wedding in October with a five course dinner and full bar for around $20,000 in Michigan. Top Three Recommendations: Burning Tree Hall (Macomb), Photographer Amber Hunt (Hazel Park), and Jeweler Maloof's Jewelry (St. Clair Shores).
Our ceremony was held at Saint Peter Catholic Church in Mount Clemens. In order to be married here, the church requires that you are a participating (read: attending!) member of the parish for one year before your wedding date.
We had to go through the Catholic Pre-Cana counseling before our marriage, which involved a group meeting with the priest, administration of the FOCUSS test, two in-home small discussion group meetings with a parish couple, and a final meeting with the priest. We started our Pre-Cana in April of 2009 and we were married in October 2009.
The total cost for the church was $400. For the organist to play the ceremony, it was an additional $150. We also made additional donations on the day of the wedding to the priest and the altar servers.
By far this was the biggest expense of the wedding, as it normally is! Our cost was $58.95 per person for a family style dinner (roast beef and chicken, salad, soup, meatless pasta, potatoes, green beans, ice cream, and served coffee and tea), premium bar, cake cutting and serving, and appetizers (cheese and crackers, fruit, and vegetables). The hall was packed for the wedding - we had about 195 guests.
Marlene Meldrum is the general manager of the hall. She did an excellent job staying in touch with me throughout the planning process and dealing with the extra family members that decided to show up the day of the wedding (despite a "no" RSVP). She also extended our reception at the end of the night because the bar, which was supposed to be closed for one hour during dinner, had stayed closed a little longer because of the size of the party (the bartenders are used as servers during dinner service).
We have heard RAVE reviews of our hall from our guests. We didn't spend any money on decorations because we didn't need to - the hall is painted in a sunflower yellow and wine, and it is BEAUTIFUL. We had full use of the hall and the patio. Our photographer even took us into the bathroom for some photos because it was so nicely decorated!
My husband was a little disappointed that he couldn't get a free round of golf with our purchase, but it is a private club so that is something to keep in mind. We also did not do a tasting before the party, but everyone LOVED the food - especially the roast beef and the green beans.
Everyone had a great time at the party, and the staff at the hall was wonderful. I highly recommend this hall.
