August 29, 2009 at Sunrise on Sunset Beach. That morning, we had some clouds and the humidity to remind us that Tropical Storm Danny was on his way out, but we did not have any rain. The sand was hard-packed from the rain which made it easy for the guests to walk. The ceremony was started with the conch shell being blown three times by my older borther to represent the presence of God, and then Jeff and I walked hand in hand into the circle of shells where John was waiting to marry us. Our guests stood, surrounded us in the circle. We had three readings which were performed by people special to us and a ring bearer who handed us the rings with a wet shorts from running through the waves before the ceremony started :-) Following the ceremony we had pcitures taken of the guests on the beach and then headed to George's for breakfast. As we finished breakfast, the clouds opened up and we had bright blue skies for the day. From there, everyone headed out for their afternoon activity...golf, beach or the pool near our home. Our reception was later that evening at our home in Ocean Isle Beach. Our wedding was very relaxed and just how we had wanted it....perfect!
For our non-traditional wedding, the three layered cakes we ordered from here were perfect! Death by Chocolate, Carrot and Coconut ~ absolutely delicious! The only thing to consider is they do not offer taste testing because they aren't a traditional wedding cake business. Highly recomment their cakes for any occasion!
We were married at the west end of Sunset Beach in North Carolina. By taking the last possible beach access to the beach and then heading west, you quickly reach an area where there are no houses, no garbage cans, just surf, sand dunes and sea oats. No permit is required for this beach, unlike Ocean Isle. The only thing to consider are the people and their dogs walking by. We were married at sunrise, so we had the beach to ourselves!
Several of our out of town guests stayed at Brunswick and really enjoyed it. Some of the condos have been updated, so if that is important to you, it would be good to ask when making reservations. We also played around of golf there one day of the wedding weekend.
After the sunrise ceremony, we needed a place serving a good breakfast all our guests before we headed to the afternoon activity of thier choice. With a little mimosa to celebrate, owners who were very accomodating and waitresses who were thrilled to have a big group in for a wedding celebration, made George's the perfect place. We love the food at George's, so try it when you are in the area or recommend it to your guests if there is a morning they will be having breakfast on their own!
