Newport and Bristol in July are beautiful. We situated ourselves in Newport for the rehearsal dinner and day after the wedding, and were very happy with how things turned out. Summer in the area is very busy, but we had no issues with getting around or being able to enjoy ourselves because of the crowds. As long as you're prepared to spend some time researching prices, accomodations, restaurants, etc. then it is well worth your while to plan your celebration in this gorgeous area!
We chose Lisa because she's one of the few photographers who still use film, and that was important to us. She did exactly what we asked of her and even our guests remarked on how wonderful she and her assistant were. They were unobtrusive and did a great job with taking all of our 'planned' family photos before the ceremony, and then all of the candid photos the rest of the night. We were able to hire her for a shorter time period than usual, and still came away with over 600 gorgeous pictures that get rave reviews from not only us but everyone who sees them!
All in all, Ingrid and Blue Rocks were easy to deal with and all the food was wonderful - from the cocktail hour to the sit down meal. Many guests commented that it was not just the best 'wedding food' they'd had, but excellent food all in all.
The issues we had with Blue Rocks: they were a little sloppy in the set up of the event, including putting the tent way too close to the ceremony site - which meant i had to literally 'duck' under the tent ropes to get to the ceremony aisle. Also - they were a little lax in setting up some items around the venue.
The biggest problem was lack of communication- We waited too long to tell Ingrid that we dediced we DID want paper lanterns, and by then she was unable to get them for us. As our caterer, she should have been on top of letting us know we had a deadline and following through with us.
We dealt with Kirtley, who was professional, prompt and super easy. The trolley was so easy and a really fun way to get us and our families to the wedding site. Limo's just aren't our thing, and the big red trolley was so indiciative of the style and vibe of the wedding day we wanted. The driver was prompt and curteous. Just make sure you remember to have pictures taken on the trolley! We forgot to and regret it to this day!
The prices of the rooms were definitely an issue, but they were right in line with other hotels in the area. Once we got over that, we found this hotel to be clean, convenient, very comfortable and everyone who stayed there enjoyed it. They have a great pool and a nice little restaurant in the lobby for breakfast.
Stunning! I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single one of our guests was blown away by the location and raved that it was one of the most beautiful spots they've ever seen. Be prepared to pay dearly for the view and ambiance, and also be prepared to deal with very strict rules and regulations from the trustees of Mount Hope Farm.
An absolute jewel! we had 35 guests and they all have raved about the dinner to this day.the food and service was par none. it created a new baseline for all"rehearsal dinners" to come. the owners helped us through the whole process, and went out of their way to make "our" night yet another high point of our wedding weekend.they are great! fluke is an a+
