Our wedding was a smashing success! Everything came together better than I ever dreamed. Having our reception on a boat floating on Pittsburgh's three rivers was an amazing experience that our family and friends are still talking about. They loved everything--the food, the cake, the flowers, the DJ, the photo favors, etc. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Rain threatened all day, but it held off on the day of the wedding and we had a perfectly clear night. Pittsburgh is a great city to get married in anytime. It's always affordable and the city offers endless entertainment for your guests.
John was awesome. We had a few problems communicating with him at first (i.e. he was slow to respond to emails, etc.), but he was a great DJ on the night of the wedding. We got many compliments on the music and he played everything we wanted.
Jason Gidas and Carol, the floral/wedding designer are great. Just one short meeting and she saw my entire vision and made it better. They also delivered and set up the flowers and were extremely reasonable--working within our budget. My flowers were gorgeous and we were really happy with them overall.
We had so much fun on our honeymoon! We were treated like royalty at Aventura Spa Palace (part of Palace Resorts). It was the perfect mix of relaxation and activity. You could choose to do several activities or trips OR just lie around the pool and lagoon all day. The resort was beautiful and the employees were all so nice and friendly. It was extremely affordable for an all-inclusive vacation and a great alternative to Sandals and the like.
Paul and Cyndy Meyer are brilliant photographers and brilliant customer service people. Every interaction with them blew me away, from their personalized emails to their Christmas card and wedding gift. Paul also spends time teaching you how to look better in photos, rather than just showing up and snapping. He would climb bridges, lay on the ground and put himself in harm's way just to get a great shot. The resulting pictures are beautiful. He is also very affordable and he doesn't make you buy a large package full of stuff you don't want.
Father Michael is a great priest. He is accepting/realistic and won't judge you. He is also very helpful and moves things along well. The church itself is beautiful. Photographers can do wonderful things there if you get a good one. Everyone there--from the office people, to the PreCana facilitators, to the organist and cantor--is extremely nice and helpful.
We loved our wedding on the Gateway Empress. Our coordinator, Ashley Barna, was great! She is nice, helpful, detail-oriented and took care of everything for us. The view on the boat is unmatched. Our guests are still raving about our wedding months later. Everyone loved the food, the cake (which comes with the reception package), and the view. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that a reception on the Gateway Clipper was less than what we have paid at most downtown hotels.
The Sheraton is always great. We had a standard room there on our wedding night. When we arrived, there was champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great view of the city. The Sheraton is the best hotel in Pittsburgh.
Unfortunately, we had many out-of-town guests stay at the Days Inn Pittsburgh Airport. It was inexpensive, but one person didn't have air conditioning (in August!) and others had problems as well. The front desk people were quite incompetent--they had reservations all messed up and they couldn't handle giving out guest welcome bags when they checked-in. This was an all-around disaster for us, but luckily, our family is pretty easygoing.
