The Cooked Goose Catering Co. did a great job for us. I didn't contact them until a couple weeks before the wedding (was going to make all the food myself, but finally succumbed to family pressure not to do that!), but they found a way to work us in. They were very flexible on how much or how little we wanted them to do, and their prices were very good. The food was delicious - more than a couple people told me they thought it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding anywhere, including many very nice venues. Their staff (two young women) did an admirable job of setting up the buffet, serving food, clearing plates, pouring wine, cleaning up and packing up the left-overs for us -- all under very difficult conditions (it was over 100 degrees that day at an outdoor wedding!),and they were pleasant and efficient throughout all! The owners of the catering company also have what appears to be a very popular diner in Oakdale -- when we went there for the taste-testing the parking lot and diner were packed with patrons. (They prepare the food from that location, whereas the very helpful woman (Debbie) who handles the catering calls works from a separate location.) Can't recommend them highly enough -- would definately use them again!
My daughter and her then fiance/now husband made the arrangements for Rev. Mark to be their officiant. I know they really enjoyed working with him before the big day, and I can tell you he did a great job performing the ceremony -- very appropriate yet amusing demeanor, alternately serious and light-hearted. He spoke well, made a nice impression, and most important, he made the ceremony very personal and meaningful. Well done.
We've now done the flowers for two different weddings by ordering our fresh flowers online from Costco's bulk flower department. Their prices are great, they ship the flowers express(shipping included in the flower price) and the flowers have all been awesome. Don't wait til the last minute to order though -- you have to do it a couple weeks ahead.
Hartwood is beautiful, inside and out. (We used both -- ceremony inside the Great Hall of the mansion, reception down in the Hemlock Grove under the 40x60 tent we rented from Hartwood (we could've rented a tent from anywhere, but Hartwood's rental prices on their tent, tables and chairs are half the price.) Everything else you have to bring in from somewhere else. Hire whatever caterer you want, or make the food yourself. Rent dishes and cups from somewhere, or buy and bring your own. Because Hartwood is part of the county park system and run by some incredibly hard-working volunteers, there are countless opportunities to save money over other types of venues -- it's up to you. We loved it there.
