The Chesapeake Bay Foundation was a perfect location for our wedding in which we wanted a relaxed beach environment but close to DC. The setting is unmatched in the area and the building provides a fantastic modern backdrop for a stunning event. Turns out the day we got married the winds were gusting but the sides for the tent over the deck were available which kept most of it out. The beach setting was gorgeous, however due to the wind we did have some wind surfers going by. Chris, the coordinator was very responsive within a short time frame and quite accommodating. The representative on site on the day however did not provide much assistance and is mainly there to turn things on and off I suppose.
The venue is quite bare bones and you do not get much for the cost besides the rental of the building. This does allow you to put your own style to the venue as opposed to a banquet hall. Although you do not get much for the money in rentals etc, the setting is unmatched and your money is going towards a very worthy organization as opposed to a commercial wedding venue. We got so many compliments on the unique venue which really set the scene for our wedding.
I totally recommend this location for a wedding or any event!
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation was the perfect setting for our wedding. We actually found CFB from the water so when we realized we could hold our wedding there we were thrilled! The building is gorgeous, the views from the deck and the dining room are incredible and the beach was the perfect place to hold our ceremony. Chris at CBF is wonderful to work with.
We booked a Sunday wedding for May ‘09 in August ’08 and had no issues with finding a date. Chris was helpful with choosing our date and times and recommending vendors. Occasionally I would call or email him with some random question and he would always get back to me and talk me through any decision. He was great and very helpful.
The facility was able to accommodate all 120 guests with ease and provided a dressing room for the bride and family and a room for babysitters to babysit some of our smaller guests. We were comfortable and felt at ease. When our band had an issue with water from the previous night’s rain falling on their equipment we were able to extend the evening at a moment’s notice. Gwen was there the day of our wedding and she worked with the caterers to make sure the day flowed easily for me and our guests. One of the nice things about CBF is that the setting is so beautiful we didn’t feel like we needed large centerpieces or lots of decorations which helped keep our wedding simple and elegant.
There were some issues with only hot water being available, which was strange, but I'm sure it's unusual. The price is high, but both my husband and I felt like it was worth it to get married in a beautiful setting that will hopefully get our guests to think a little differently about green architecture. I would definitely recommend CBF.
