I am writing today with disappointment in one of our vendors for our wedding. We were married on Sept. 18th in the Elmwood Park Grotto, which is a beautiful location. However, location aside, we did not receive everything we were promised via phone conversations with the gal in charge of the Omaha Parks department for weddings.
First, we were told that there was an outlet above the Grotto that we would use for music and that we would just drop an extension cord over the side. This was confirmed both with the gal and Patrick who takes care of the facilitates. I had never been their before and was thrilled to hear about this and scheduled and paid for a DJ to attend our wedding for the music.
Well...there is an outlet. What we weren't told is that it doesn't work. Praise the Lord for some fast thinking guests, who just happened to have a power inverter and used their vehicle to plug the speakers into for our DJ or we would have had no music at all. Of course these guests missed our wedding because they had to monitor their running truck in a pubic park.
Secondly, the reason we didn't rent the Pavilion is because we were told that the public would be able to come and go from the Pavilion to use the restroom even though we had it rented. The City of Omaha Parks Department rented the Pavilion at the same time as our wedding in the Grotto and the other wedding turned away our wedding guests from using the facilities. Now, this would not have been a complete disaster IF there were other indoor facilities available. Several of our guests had to walk all over the park, as the buildings were locked, and finally found porter-potties which I am told were so disgusting it made people want to throw up. Hot days and fecal matter don't mix.
And lastly, due to their double booking of the same location, there were parking issues for our guests. What could they have possibly been thinking other than trying to make more money. They certainly were not thinking about satisfying people who ALREADY had it rented.
I contacted the Parks department after our wedding to get this straightened out because I had extremely unhappy guests and wedding party members, but because the emails I have corresponding with the gal who "used" to be in charge of weddings doesn't specifically say anything about the outlet, they are refusing to issue any kind of refund. The deplorable bathroom situation alone should constitute a partial refund. I was told that "this isn't their department." as a way to brush off the responsibility. I'm sorry, but If you know you are having MULTIPLE weddings that you double booked that day, you should ensure the available restrooms are cleaned.
Shame on the Omaha Parks Department.
So, if you choose to rent the Grotto, or any other Omaha park, please keep in mind the above issues and your guests comfort.
