Ours was a destination wedding and so it was a little difficult to find exactly the right place. We are so glad we selected the Magnolia Plantation Carriage House. The venue along the river under the oak tree draped in moss was lovely. We set up the patio for drinks, which got people who wanted to chat away from the band but still able to hear the music. We got just the "old South" feel we were looking for and our guests from the North loved the venue as it was so different from most weddings they attend. We opted to use Carolina Catering as they are the preferred vendor. Their food was better than most weddings, but not top-of-the line. We opted to ship in our own wine for the meal, but used their preminum bar for the reception and party following dinner. There were some challenges that we faced...table arrangements for the 80 guests and our 5 piece band were tricky as the annex has a very low ceiling and some of our guests were 7 feet tall...and the inside of the Carriage House is dark paneling with dark carpet, so it took a bit of decorating to give it a brighter, more formal feeling we were going for (we opted for a vintage look with natural, organic florals)...we did get some boaters with engine noise going through during the ceremony, but then it was Labor Day weekend on the river and people tried to pull over or shut down their motors when they saw the wedding in progress. It wasn't that bad, but if that bugs you, then be aware...and finally, we did opt to have extra bug spraying the day before the wedding in order to keep down the mosquitos that are pretty heavy by the river and in the bamboo border that sits along the Carriage House. Our only recommendation is that the facility could be buffed up a little in terms of the grounds maintenance around the site and the bathrooms...but they are working on it and really, our guests thought the site was just wonderful! All in all, for their low price we were very impressed with all we received and recommend it to couples who want that outdoor wedding with a casual, but still somewhat elegant touch of the South.
