Where to have a reception?

I would like to get married in my church. The wedding will be next May or June. I live near NAS Pensacola and my fiancee is in the Marines, but he wants to leave the military out of it. So the ceremony is on Blue Angel, but we are still looking for a reception hall. I would like for it to be on the water with beach access. I am actually considering an outside reception, but will it be too hot or humid... not to mention rain. :( I would prefer something near the church, so Perdido area because of out of town guest and I don't want them driving all over getting lost. I am considering Pensacola Beach as an alternative. How much should I be expecting to pay for 5 hours? And I also would like somewhere that I can provide the alcohol since this is on us... I'd be willing to pay a bartender though. Any help, suggestions, pictures, experiences are greatly appreciated. I feel so overwhelmed right now.

I bet you are feeling overwhelmed right now, but don't let it get to you. I don't think a lot of places let you bring your own alcohol. I considered having my ceremony and reception on the beach but I decided that on the most important day in my life I did not want to take the chance of having it rain and be humid and ruin everything! I've been looking at venues downtown in the historic area instead. I have an appointment with the Sales Department at the Crowne Plaza Grand Hotel. They seem very nice and for being an upscale hotel it is pretty reasonably priced. I called other venues and you have to meet a food and beverage "minimum" and other fees, etc. Wish me luck! Good luck to you too and congratulations girl!

My fiance is a marine as well. We are getting married on base and then the reception will be at the officers club ballroom. I suggest this place because it is a great price compared to the other 15 places I researched! It does not have to include ANYTHING military. Civilians and military can rent it out. There is also two rooms that are smaller and they have huge windows overlooking the ocean. The price for the ballroom is about 750 and the other rooms are a few hundred cheaper. you have to use their food (like most reception halls do). The place is right down from blue angel so it would be close. Dont go to the crown plaza... OVERPRICED and like most hotels, they want you to have a min. number of guests staying at the hotel. Myspace is cool but kinda pricey..you have to pay for valet parking and its a min. of paying for a few guys to do it or something..its been a while since i talked to them. Oh yea i forgot... the officers club is 25 dollars an hour for the bartender and then you can pay for open bar or have cash bar or put down maybe 500 and then after that guest pay. So good luck!

I just wanted to rocommend Skopelos on the Bay. I am an event planner, I just had a couple book their wedding at Skopelos. The food is amazing. It is VERY reasonably priced and they give you a lot more freedom than most venues. They have a beautiful indoor room as well as a georgous backyard that you can have an outdoor wedding. It is on a bluff so you can see the ocean over the cliff. As far as alcohol, you can not bring your own BUT if you want to only spend $300 (just a random figure) then they will serve drinks and let you know when you are getting close to that figure. Just an idea. I am from Atlanta GA, I just got married in October. I understand the stresses. =)I have since moved my company to Pensacola Florida so if their is anything I can do to help let me know!
