I have a friend who photographs weddings in the Vancouver area on a per hour basis, and the last I heard I believe she was charging $90 per hour.

This is the girl that I found on Craigslist and I think she's one of the best ones that I have found on Craigslist. Her price is great from what I've seen on Craigslist too (4 hours being about $500).

Check her out, she's a newer wedding photographer, but I think she's pretty good considering. This is the link to her website.

We met with her & were impressed enough to book her for our Sep. 2011 wedding! Mention you heard about her from the salsa dance couple in Richmond.

Price depends on what you're looking for. What do you want in your package? How much time do you need? You could get 5 hours of coverage from Blu Studio Photography (http://www.blustudio.ca) for $1500 including a DVD of images!

You may want to try and find a skilled secondary photographer with wedding experience who is looking into stepping into the primary photographer role. They will be willing to charge less, but more importantly they will better understand the ebb and flow of a wedding day and how to best capture it with photography. You may also find somebody who has other portrait photography experience and is looking to build their wedding portfolio and therefore will charge less.

As Paul said, price depends on what you are looking for. Many photographers are willing to work a shorter day at an hourly rate which includes a DVD of images. Find a photographer whose work you love and ask them if they are willing to customize their packages to suit your needs.

And remember, other than your love, photography is the only part of your wedding day that will last forever, so I encourage you to select your photographer based on quality, passion and style, not exclusively on price. In doing so, you will guarantee the creation of wedding photographs that will have lasting impact and give you many years of enjoyment.

Good luck with your planning!
