I'm trying to find local venues for my wedding around Jackson, but I haven't been able to find any. I would prefer having the wedding and reception at different places, unles I find a location I really like! But it's looking to be pretty hard to find somewhere to get married! Any ideas?

My reception is at the Commonwealth Commerce Center, and they have 2 different rooms, so you could choose, depending on your liking and the size of your wedding. They aren't really THAT expensive, and they are great to work with. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well first, it's best to know how many people you want to invite. Most places around Jackson only hold 250 or less; few places are more. We were inviting 450, so we had to plan on the potential for all of those people to show up. That will make your research so much easeier :)

We had our reception at the Commonwealth Commerce Center and had 285 people attend--we had plenty of space. Plus they are affordable and easy to work with. Are you looking to get married at a church or a different type of venue? Let me know if there's any questions I can answer for you to try and help! :)

I'm not exactly sure how many people, I'm thinking probably somewhere between 200 and 300 maybe. Everytime I say something to my fiance' about getting a list from his side of people he says "I have plenty of time to get that" lol. Our wedding is next September, so I can sort of understand that, but he's a guy and doesn't understand what's going to need to be planned and thought of now! I'd like to get married in a church, but neither one of us attends a church, and I don't know of many churches that will let you get married there if you're not a member. Also since our wedding is in September, I'm a little hesitant to try and plan one at an outside venue, because of the weather.

We did our wedding in a church and did our reception Gene Davis hall. They were very reasonable and have wonderful food.

At least you have an idea of between 200 and 300. I'd just tell him that it's really important to you and it'll help you keep within budget. Guys always like to save money :) I think there are some in Jackson that will marry you if you aren't a member, but the rental cost of the church is higher. I would just look up some of the churchs and see if they have that information on their website or if there's someone at the church who can send you info about it.

My husband and I got married in May, we had a small wedding and our reception in the Fireside room at Cascades Manor House 1970 Kibby Road Jackson, MI 49203 (517) 784-1500. They have a wonderful staff and good menu. Visit their website for more details and options, they have two rooms available. I have also been to a number of friends weddings there and they have used the larger room for the reception and the smaller room for dancing/DJ. That is nice because people that don't want to dance can still sit and talk in a quieter area.

We also looked at the Ella Sharp Museum of Art. They have a beautiful space also.

I've contacted a few churches and am waiting for them to email me back. There is one that I know will, the only thing I don't really care for at the church is they don't have a center aisle :/ But we are sort of talking over having it at the Gene Davis Center and then going somewhere to get pictures done after, since I'd rather them not be in a parking lot! :) We are going to get our engagment pictures done at Cascades, so maybe we'll go back there for the wedding pictures. Unless we can find a different venue for the ceremony, I really like the church idea though. Now that we have a rough idea of how many guests though it should make it a little easier, and are currently debating about an outside wedding. I'll be going to a few bridal expos so hopefully we'll get more ideas as well. Thanks everyone for your replys! :)

Look into Ella Sharp, they have places for the ceremony and a beautiful community room for the reception (at Ella Sharp Museum). It's a great price, too!

What room did you use at the common wealth? Was it the up stairs or down stairs?

My husband and I got married in the downstairs "ballroom" of the Commonwealth Center. We had 285 people show up and we had more than enough room for everyone.
